You’re going to have a rough first day. Your best bet at this point (I’m assuming you’ve already tried enrolling online but most or all of the classes are full) is to go to your desired class on the first day and try to “crash” into the course.

This usually consists of a lottery (done in class) which decides who gets to be in the class. If you get lucky then great, but more often than not you will be (abruptly sometimes even) shoo’d from the class.

Try adding classes a few days before school starts… Just keep hitting refresh all day. Students will be dropping, but you need to add immmediately.

Hi guys! On a lot of pages I’m reading that it is almost impossible to get the classes you need at SMC and it’s even harder if you’re a new student. But I wanted to know from people that actually went to SMC, have you all had problems getting classes? And would it even be hard if you enrolled as soon as enrollment started?

Or does it only become more difficult when you don’t sign up immediately at your enrollment time?

Just plan what you want and have some back ups. Generally, they offer enough of the important classes that you will get one, even if it is not your first choice. Or, you can join a program like Scholars or EOPS to get priority. Also, the more units you accumulate, the better your enrollment date, up until like 70 units.

It’s somewhat difficult to get the classes you want if you’re not in a program that grants priority enrollment or something like that. I could only get the classes I needed and not necessarily the ones I wanted until I joined SMC’s scholars program.
