Can you still get FAFSA aid without yet filing the 2010 income tax return and correcting the estimates, or if you put "will file" on the FAFSA application?

You will need to contact your school.

First…most schools had financial aid application deadlines for the 2011-2012 school year that have LONG passed.

Second…any financial aid award you receive based on a “will file” status will NOT be finalized OR disbursed to you until you do your taxes…and amend the FAFSA to reflect the numbers on that return…and indicate “taxes filed”. Some schools will also require you to send in your tax return as part of the financial aid process.

Third…not a tax expert here…but if you were required to file…you missed THAT deadline too…hope you filed for an extension.

Fourth…the only aid available at most places at this late date would be “entitlement” grants such as the Pell grant if you are Pell eligible…and the Stafford loan. Most other aid probably has been awarded already…what were you hoping to get?

Fifth…school starts in a couple of weeks…seems sort of “late” to be trying to deal with this issue if you need the money. Just saying.

I have filled out the FAFSA when the application first came out this year, when it only required the numbers to be estimates. Is it too late to “correct” these estimates?

It’s not too late to correct the FAFSA for the upcoming school year…and actually your school may require that this be done before they will DISBURSE any aid to you. Call and ask. But the taxes need to be done to do this.

Also, any aid other than entitlements (Pell Grant) or loans might LONG be gone.

Did you receive an estimated financial aid award package from your university?

It’s getting mighty close to the start of school.

I did; I received an estimated financial aid award package that included all of the FAFSA grants / awards before I even corrected my FAFSA, which I did just now. So I guess I will be okay. Thanks for the responses.

sincerely…you might want to give your college financial aid office a call to be sure that the financial aid award will be able to be disbursed by the time the fall payment is due. Just to be on the safe side.
