How early do you need to register and apply for on-campus housing at Cal Poly in order to get a decent housing priority? My daughter is trying to decide between two schools, Cal Poly and a small, private school that offered her a good financial aid package. We would like to have her visit both schools again the week of April 1 to April 5. If she registered and applied for Cal Poly housing within a few days after that, would she get a decent housing priority? She is very social and I don’t think she would be happy in the Cerro Vista apartments as a freshman. I think she would do better in one of the other dorms.

Yeah, I think if she registered in the beginning of April, she’d still have a very good chance of getting into a dorm and not the apartments. Even if, and that’s a big if, she got stuck in the apartments, she could always move to the dorms. It’s a bit of a hassle, but there are always people wanting to change where they live, usually as early as the first few weeks of school.
