Worried About Housing

I was recently accepted as a freshman to Cal Poly, and I am strongly considering it as my top choice. However, I will not be making a decision until mid-April, after I have gone to visit all the colleges I am interested in.

A large concern of mine is that I have heard housing fills up incredibly quick. You also cannot apply for housing until you accept Cal Poly’s offer of admission. As I obviously don’t want to be stuck without housing or in housing I don’t want to be on, I’m a little worried. Say I accept the offer and apply for housing sometime between the 15th and the 18th of April. Will I be able to get the housing I want? I’m not sure which housing I want yet but I definitely don’t want to be in the party dorms and I’d probably like something a little more social than the Cerro Vista apartments. I’m probably thinking the engineering dorms.

Also, I know that many students aren’t going to make their decision/accept the offer of admission until after open house/new student day (while I will likely decide before then because I’ll be unable to make it to the open house) so that may mean I’m worrying too much. Be that as it may, I would like some reassurance.

I’m worried as well. I really want the housing that I choose but idk when I’ll finalize my decision of where to attend. I’m going to call tomorrow and probalbly make a post about it. You should call as well and ask about the chances of you getting the dorm of your choice. Good luck!

I went to a Cal Poly reception here in NYC and I asked a question about housing. I forgot exactly what the speaker said, but I think it was that they have enough room to fit all (or maybe it was 98%) of the freshman. He said the only people who were screwed in terms of housing were those who never applied for a dorm and showed up on the first day expecting to have a room.
