Is the Dart Bus Route from the Wilmington Train Station to UD the #6? Also, are there multiple stops on campus, or only the one hub on East Main? This will be my son's first time using the bus system, and we are both clueless.

Thanks!

MY D did it a week ago the other direction on a trip to Michigan via BWI. She took the bus from her dorm to the Wilmington Station. I will ask her but in the meanwhile, this might help:

[FAQ - Transportation Services - University of Delaware](http://www.udel.edu/transportation/faq.html#towilmtrainbus)

There is only one stop on campus with DART and it is on the far side of main street so it is a little bit of a walk. Not bad but if you have a lot to carry or the weather is bad it can be a pain. Our D used DART when she first got to school as she took the train into Wilmington. I will have to look up the # but 6 doesn’t sound familiar.

It is bus #6. Just looked on the DART map

Thanks for the replies - very helpful!

Not sure if it would work for you, but my daughter walked to the Newark Amtrak station on south college and took train to Baltimore.

crobinpa, the schedule of trains from Newark to BWI is a lot less frequent than from Wilmington. That’s why my daughter wound up taking a bus to Wilmington and then a train to BWI in order to fly out to Michigan two weeks ago. Luckily we were able to schedule it so that Sunday night she was able to take the train back to Newark, and then walk to her dorm.

FWIW, she found it easy going both ways. The bus from UD to Wilmington was longer than she would have liked but easy and the Amtrak station is accross from the bus stop in Wilmington. Amtrak left her right at the terminal in BWI.

Wouldn’t it normally be quicker / easier to fly via Philadelphia International Airport ?

I am trying to find out how hard it is going to be to get to the local airports from campus especially with two bags in tote.

Jben, the link I gave above says that you’d have to take SEPTA to the University City stop and then SEPTA’s Regional Airport line to the Airport. I don’t know how long that trip is or how much it costs, but the big drawback is that the first leg only operates M -F.

Amtrak, though, which stops right at the Newark station near campus and goes straight to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, has a number of trains over the weekend as well (more though from Wilmington), Coming and going from Newark to BWI appears to be easier if it works with your flights.

I’m also a big fan of the civilty and convenience of Amtrak.

Traye25… You can easily reach PHL on weekends from Wilmington Station on a SEPTA train. You need to transfer at University City Station to a SEPTA Airport Line train. Connections are good, about a ten minute wait. The fare for the one way trip is about $9.75. The entire ride is just over an hour. You can also take Amtrak to 30th Street Station and transfer there to an Airport Line train (its at the upper level). It is probably a little faster, but more expensive. [SEPTA | Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority](http://www.septa.org) and use the Trip Planner to see your options!

So…we know that there are a variety of ways to get from Newark to various major airports which will then take you to points around the country…unlike a lot of other schools.

It seems that Sunday may be the exception in finding a variety of ways to get to Newark.

I think the Delaware Express Shuttle may be the only Sunday option from the airport PHL and that is about $46. If anyone has made the trip on a Sunday how about documenting it so we all can learn something.

If you travel Amtrak, try to buy your tickets as early as possible. The prices go up depending upon the number of seats sold for each train. Thanksgiving is the most expensive time to travel by Amtrak, by far. The prices also often greatly vary by time of day.
