ok, any suggestions on the best time to get the fsu card? anybody already done orientation and have any advice? we check in Sunday night so can't get it done before Monday.

Early Monday morning. Early means no line. Lots of students won’t know to go until later when they are told. Get there early Monday. Eat breakfast quickly then go get the card before the first session. Another good time is early Tues, but it will be busier. Otherwise, whenever you have a break and can go, but the lines are longer then. I think you still need $10 cash or check or maybe credit card. You can’t (at least in the past) put it on your FSU account.

Yep, what sunnyflorida said! I went last week and I was up at the table filling out paper work at 7:45. They didn’t let us in until 8, but I was first in line to get my picture taken and to set up my suntrust account. When I finished a little after 8, there was a HUGE line. I recommend waking up really early and getting there early, or else you’ll spend all morning in line.

I got mine after orientation because I was staying for another day anyway and there was no line. You really don’t have to go to the last session anyway if you don’t want to sign the c/o 2010 banner so you can do it then. Also, you can put the $10 on your account. They automatically did it without asking me…

I got mine during the second day of orientation. I’m not an early-riser, so I rolled out of bed well after the recommended time. There was a big line, but it went quickly. The $10 fee for the card will be added on to your tuition, so it will be viewable on your blackboard account. I don’t think that they give you an option on how you’re charged. It took me about 45 minutes to sit in line to get my picture, my card, and set up my bank account, but I wasn’t paying particular attention.

About how many students attend each freshmen orientation session? 200, 400, 500?

Nice to know you can put the $10 on account. I found it strange 3 years ago when we had to pay, and even more so earlier this year when D2 got her card at another state U and it went on her account.

My orientation session was last week from Wednesday to Friday. There were about 300 people at the session, give or take. That’s according to one of the orientation leaders. You’re split in to small groups for the most part, with about half of the day spent in small groups and half spent as a large orientation class.

300? Dang…I was close, but didn’t have 300! Thank you payco. 300 is a good amount of people…not enough to get lost or overwhelmed, but enough to keep things interesting.

It was a good size group. You’ll befriend a few people. During the second day, you’ll usually find a couple of people to chill with either in the dorms, during meals, or during large group sessions. It’ll be awkward at first, but you get used to it.

The best time to get the FSU ID card is during Preview, assuming one is going to enroll at FSU. Avoid the lines at Orientation.

^ They don’t let you get it at Preview anymore, at least not this year. I asked about it on the phone and during the online chat session.

I believe that if you pay your tuition deposit ahead of time, you can get your FSU card at Preview. If you wait and pay deposit at Preview you cannot.

From the FSU website

We know of students who did get their FSU card on visits PRIOR to orientation this calendar year.

Well I guess either I was lied to or they just haven’t updated their website (which seems to be the problem on a number of webpages). I only asked after you guys here said that we could. I asked if paying the admission deposit changed anything, and both times I was told “They won’t be available to incoming students until orientation starts this year.” I went to the very last Preview session so nothing could have changed after that.
