Getting In-State Tuition

I’m from California and I’m about to begin my senior of high school. University of Washington is my first choice but of course, it’s extremely expensive for out-of-state students. If I do happen to get in and if my parents move with me to Washington, could I get in-state tuition for my sophomore, junior, and senior year? I’m assuming I would still be living in the dorms and not at home.

Probably not by sophomore year, but maybe Junior. Getting in-state tuition is different than just being a WA state resident. You can’t just move here and be a resident(for instate tuition), the requirements take a while to meet and likely require you to work here for a year or so to be financially independent on your taxes.

You likely won’t be living on campus by junior year. There is not enough housing available, and priority goes to freshmen.

New freshmen have highest assignment priority, but according to the HFS website, “placement in the residence halls is guaranteed for returning residents. All other applicants are assigned based on their priority and application date.” Returning residents should apply early to ensure higher assignment priority and best room selection.

I’m interested in the same topic, can the student get instate tuition without taking a year off? Each state has different requirements.

The general requirement for students is to live in the state for 12 consecutive months prior to the first day of the quarter students are seeking residency. Also, you have to renounce all your valid ties from your previous state. If you’re financially dependent, your parents should do the same.
