I will be going to UCLA next fall as an electric engineering major. I like art, and Im not that bad at it. Is it practical to get into an art program at UCLA as an electric engineering, or even possibly get a minor/second major?

I have no idea how the system works, so y'all have to explain how the art system even works.

So basically

-How do I get into art as electric engineernig major
-Is it worth it/should I do it
-Could I get a minor/major (what exactly is a minor?)
-Is it difficult?
-Could I submit a portfolio or something?

(By arts I mean visual arts like painting)

Transferring into the art major is probably not as difficult as transferring into engineering. Your problem with a second major might be that both the school of engineering and school or arts and architecture would require you to make both majors your primary major.

There is no art minor just as there is no electrical engineering minor so you may have to petition the art or engineering department. Their courses are restricted to students in the major/school only.

You may have serious issues juggling your schedule trying to fit in 4-8 hour long studio classes especially in your first few years. Don’t they usually recommend a light load the first year?

If you seriously want to learn art, don’t bother with their “express yourself/feelings/whatever” school of art. The LA area offers many excellent art courses.
