Getting into Johns Hopkins, etc.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight on what chances i have of getting into a school like Johns Hopkins, or boston college, northeastern university, etc. I didn't try my fresh an soph years and got a 2.8 gpa then junior year I got a 4.1 gpa and I plan on a 4.5 senior year. I got a 31 on my act but plan on raising to a 32/33. I do research in the opthalmogy department @ the Nebraska medical center and also could get a letter of Rec from the head opthalmologist who I do research for who studied @ MIT & Johns Hopkins as well. I also volunteer there. I play hockey, baseball, and golf, and am a student athletic trainer at my school. Any insight would be appreciated
Thank you

I am assuming that 2.8 is weighted based on the 4.1… Honestly it is rather unrealistic with a 2.8 if the only reason you had that GPA is that you were being lazy. All though there are stories of people getting in with lower stats, a 2.8 is just too low for a school as selective as Johns Hopkins. Also the high ACT/low GPA implies laziness.

The 2.8 was just my first 2 years, unweighted, but I picked up the slack junior year with a 4.1, and will take 4-5 ap classes next year with a’s in most of them, I’m guessing. I know I was really lazy but hopefully admissipns reps will realize I learned from the mistake

And no it’s a 3.3 now, not a 2.8. Probably 3.5 after my first semester of senior year.

Colleges will decide whether or not to accept you looking at your grades through only the end of junior year. While an upward trend is good, you have to remember that they reject tons of very qualified students with 4.0s uw who have been consistent students for all of high school.

Yeah I understand. If I apply later, though, they’ll still consider first semester of senior year. Especially a student like me. I guess I’ll have to focus on bringing my act up to a 33. I can get great letters of rec and hopefully the research looks good on the application.

Although I know Hopkins is far fetched, I don’t think northeastern or BU is at all

Both are rather selective and again your GPA is too low. To have a shot you really need a 3.5+ Remember that GPA is more important then SAT…
