Getting off the waitlist

Can some current students or those who have experience with getting off CU's waitlist please offer some advice to me? I got a WL and am 100% sure I'll attend if I get accepted eventually. Columbia's extracurricular offerings and environment would be very suitable for my interests. I'm huge on music and would take every opportunity presented to me if I get in. All advice is appreciated.

Thanks and congrats to those who were accepted!

Anyone? I would really appreciate some advice here. Columbia remains my #1.

Write a letter to them stating your strong points and updates on what’s happened since you submitted your apps. As I understand whether or not they select you will be dependent on what you will bring to the class-- e.g., if after May 1 they realize their class is weak on the woodwind section, they may take a few clarinet and piccolo players off the waitlist, or something. I guess then the more you bring to the class the better.
And obviously, make the point that you will definitely attend if accepted.

And get your school to write a letter supporting you also, and have them say they guarantee that you will go if accepted. Like from your head of school or counselor.

I’m in the same boat right now. I think it’s important to mention what exactly it is about Columbia that will best fit your academic/extracurricular interests, but more importantly, let them know WHY they should admit you out of the other kids on the waitlist. What makes you unique? What sorts of new perspectives, talents, or skills could you bring to the Columbia student body? Answering this question would significantly boost your candidacy.

I’m not 100%, but doesn’t the Columbia website say that they do not encourage sending in additional letters of recommendation?

yeah it said dont add more letters of rec but you could send in a letter if you really wanted to

My son was accepted from the waitlist to Columbia College last year (around the 13th of May). He provided the admissions office with two things in April: a one-page letter he wrote highlighting his accomplishments in the second half of the year and his interest in attending if accepted, and a one-page letter of recommendation from another teacher.

I just sent an email to Columbia with a list of new awards and attached a page-long letter to admissions. Fingers crossed and praying.

Hey, I was wondering, did any of you who submitted a letter to the confirm e-mail address receive some sort of confirmation e-mail? I don’t know if mine went through :S

I didn’t get any confirmation email either…I don’t think we’re supposed to.

Nope, no email for me either. I’d say you shouldn’t worry about it.

What email did everyone said their letter to?

It should have been linked in the waitlist letter, but the address was ugrad-confirm@columbia.edu.
