what did you do to get off the waitlist?

just curious what all of the WL-ers have done/are planning to do to “inform [insert college here] of your continued interest” in hopes of getting that acceptance letter?

A few days after accepting a place on U Chicago's wait list, I sent them a letter explaining that U of C was my first choice, and reaffirming my commitment to attend if granted admission. I let maybe 2-3 weeks go by, and then emailed my regional admissions counselor with an update on what I had been doing. I'm hoping my involvement with an independent, self-designed, semester-long senior project will show them I'm actually motivated to learn even as my friends are slacking off... ;) I also had my 3rd quarter grades sent to them as of today. I am considering sending another letter of recommendation soon, as one of my english teachers offered to write me one.

I don't know how other people are dealing with wait-lists, but I find it difficult to find the line between determined and annoying... I'm afraid of being too pushy, but it's hard to have a good idea of what to do in this situation. Good luck to everyone out there!

hey i got chicago listed too =) but i dont wnat to go there anymore, but for reed i sent a love letter, then another essay. am thinking about another rec letter or something, but i am really happy with the school i'm going to now so its not too big a deal for me..i'd probably pick that over reed even fi i got into reed..maybe

I will have to wait about two weeks before I hear from either. I wrote a personal, two page (not double-spaced) letter to each, and included two teacher recs (teachers who like me :)). Mailed everything within a few days of each other. Have crossed my fingers to see if I will get accepted or not!

Best wishes everyone.

where were you waitlisted? i was at chicago, reed and smith. i should have just taken myself off smith and chicago but my parents wanted me to stay on just in case i didnt like the school i am now attendin as much..but i love it so thats not an issue. good luck to you all =)

I was waitlisted for Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Sciences at McGill, my first choice. I was recently accepted to both Faculties.
These are the steps we, my school and I, took:
The head of the IB program at my school phoned McGill to discuss my application.
I wrote a letter to McGill explaining that Mcgill was my first choice. I also detailed my academic interests.
My school mailed my midyear report card.
My GC wrote an additional letter and faxed up my expected IB exam scores.
I was waitlisted on 3/29 and accepted on 4/28.
I know what you mean about wls, it was an agonizing period. Everyone else was settled and I was still in limbo.
Good luck to you.

On Friday I got a thin letter from GA Tech, telling me I was not accepted off the waitlist (though I HAD written an appeal letter and sent two recommendations). Oh well. It was worth a shot.

Yesterday, inexplicably, I get an e-mail congratulating me on my Tech acceptance, saying that an acceptance letter and packet are on its way! Woo hoo! My appeals worked (though for some reason I got sent a nasty rejection letter the day before). I'm going with the e-mail and ignoring the rejection letter (by the way, the rej. letter said they could not offer my admission to the Fall term of 2004-- I guess it was a "mistake" letter?)

:)

I'm really happy. Now I just have to wait and see what Occidental is going to tell me (I sent them appeals letters/recs too). Go Yellow Jackets!

lol that is indeed strange

good luck!

ok, horror of horrors: friday afternoon i check my email and in my bulk is an email with the subject 'reed college' and the sender is the same lady who emailed me my waitlist notice. so now i'm extremely nervous and i check it...

and its a blank email. theres no text. tahts it, just some empty space and a CC to some other person witha reed email address.

GAAH! i can't get a response til the next workday, monday, so ive jsut got to calla nd see what that was about. man.
