In the waitlist letter, WM specifically stated that their waitlist is unranked. To the best of my knowledge, this means that I can send in materials and demonstrate interest to possibly have them consider me should they decide to go to the waitlist. They also obviously have quotas to fill with in-state:out-of-state and the like, but I'm wondering what I can do to increase my chances of being accepted off the waitlist. Would sending in a letter after I've visited and possibly an additional rec from my calc teacher be appropriate?

From the W&M 2006-7 Abstract...
Do you have a policy of placing students on a waiting list? X
If yes, please answer the questions below for fall 2006 admissions:
Number of qualified applicants offered a placed on waiting list 2249
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 1119
Number of wait-listed students admitted 14
Is your waiting list ranked? NO

ouch... well if you really have your heart set on WM you can always try to transfer in! those numbers are pretty staggering... i didn't know that only 14 out of 1119 was the number geez

It is remarkably discouraging. They said we're welcome to send in new academic information, but priority is usually given to in-staters to keep the desired ratio of in-state to out-of-staters. I guess visiting and writing a letter expressing my continued interest couldn't hurt.

is W + M's WL larger than usual now that UVA, HP got rid of their early programs? so theyll take more off the list?
