Getting Ready For Football

Not even sure if my son will actually play but we are so exciting about the August game. Unfortunately, being clear across the country we are unable to attend so my husband it going to set up our system off the computer into a projector so that we can actually see the game on big screen.... any other crazy football parents that do this? Suggestions?

Oh yes, and I have never posted because I have just been enjoying reading everyone else's posts. I too was glued to the computer every day waiting for pics to post.....only received 2 letters////gf received several. But its all good. My son had minor surgery during Indoc but fortunately or unfortunately we didnt find out about it until it was done (from the gf). That is a wierd feeling. However, I know he is in good hands and he hates to be fussed over anyway. So enough said about that. We sent him a goody pack and he just gave it up to one of the people in charge. He said that there was no where to hide the wrappers so why bother? So I hope that all who benefitted from the goody box enjoyed the snacks.

Looking forward to meeting everyone at Parents Weekend. Haven't got a hotel yet? Any suggestions?

Oh yes, and thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post pics. You are all a God send!

Hello football mom. I'm also a football mom. My son just told me the other day he can't wait for football to start. What position does your son play? Mine was a linebacker in H.S. but I think they may move him to safety here. Well can't wait for the games too because at least I will be able to see him somewhat. Hopefully coach Toop has a heart and will let them say hi after games. Aso I saw two dates for Kean game Aug. 31 at night or Sept. 1. Do you know which it is since we are New Yorkers and we want to go?

First football game is away on Friday, August 31 at Kean University in Union, New Jersey at 7pm. This is the most accurate, up to date information from the USMMA Athletics website (Regimental Calendar info that seems to conflict was developed several months ago).

thanks atlsmith. I know I saw two different dates.

Our son is ready for football to start, too. We had the same idea as you, KPFootballMom--just went out and bought a new 60" television that will connect to the computer so we can watch the webcasts! We are in Idaho, so the only game we will see in person is Parents Weekend. Of course, we may never see him on the field; but we want to invite family and friends over and turn them all into Mariners fans!
Supermansmom, is your son in 2nd Company by chance? Our son's roommate is a football player from New York--maybe your son.
We are staying at the Holiday Inn Westbury for Parents Weekend, but I don't know much about it. The rate is about $147 per night. Calling the motel directly we were quoted $199, but it was lower on the Holiday Inn website.
I'm really envious of parents who live close enough to see more of the football games--cheer them on for us!

My son played center and D-line in high school. But I understand that Coach will move them to wherever he feels that they can perform best. I am excited to see the Mariners play at Parents Weekend. Other than that, family and friends are invited to our house in California to watch the games each week. Go Mariners!

Kean University's website confirms that the football game will be played Friday August 31st @ Union, NJ. Gametime 7pm.

Be sure and check out the other schools websites. Some of the colleges webcast their games also. Last year we watched the games on our computer screen which wasn't be best. This year we are going to plug into our older son's big screen TV. Hopefully this situation will work better. We managed to pick out our son most of the time (he was on kick off and kick return and we knew where his position was which helped alot. We could also tell the time he limped off the field and didn't go back in. Waited on pins and needles until he called after the game (he was okay). It is not a good as being there in person but is a step above audio alone. We only watched the parents weekend live last year and hope to make the game over Columbus Day weekend this year. I am having a hard time getting room close to KP something must be going on on that weekend that they are already so booked. Also, last year football apparel was hard to come by at PW. We were able to get a couple of caps and a polo shirt. My son got husband a nice sweatshirt at Christmas which he will be wearing during most games this year. Go KP! My son played outside linebacker last year but is going to middlelinebacker this year. He had quite a lot of recruits stay with him during the year and usually gave them some sort of talk, so they might know him. He is the only one from MT

LearningLots - Yes my son is 2nd Company. But I met his roommates. One is from Kentucy and one is from Viriginia. Your from Idaho. So I don't think he is roomming with your son. I know another New Yorker but he is 3rd Company. I think the school took about 14 New Yorkers. Sorry.

My boy is 2nd co (he's from VA) also, his roomates are from Panama and Idaho. He's on the "flight deck" of the barricks.

For those moms who can't attend the football games in person, don't worry - my nephew is on the football team too and my sister and/or her husband go to every football game they can for the past 4 years (and will be again this year - don't ask!). They have even flown to CA to attend! After the game, my sister visits with all the players and gives lots of hugs. I once asked a couple of my nephew's buddies if this wasn't embarrassing to them, but they said no, they could use a 'mom' hug any time! So if your player is around her, she'll probably be hugging them too, she's not the kind to only hug the ones she knows! She also feeds them too. They have a parents' group that bring all kinds of stuff for tailgating and put on quite a spread for the guys after the games. One game that I was at in Albany last year, it was pouring rain, but they had 2 tents set up and managed to eat everything!

So for parents weekend, should we all plan a huge tailgate? What do you all think? Let me know.

I am a football Mom of 2011 Mariner. He played O-line, D-line and Center in HS, but will be a fullback here. Also, probably won't be on the field at the Kean game, but, I WILL BE THERE!! I am from Jersey and my mom lives about 20 minutes from Kean Campus! I will send greetings from all of you in general, but if there are any specific messages, let me know. WE CAN TALK TO THEM AT THE GAME!! I already know that from the coaches. Can't wait to go!! I am a football fanatic!! GO MARINERS!!!!

My boy will be playing Ice Hockey. I'll try to go when I can! GO MARINERS!

My boy inherited all of his Dad ice hockey skating abilities ---- which is not say NONE. :(
The Northern guys were playing chase/tag with one another, and we Southern boys were the 'obstacles' they were hiding behind. :D
We were like slow moving orange cones wobbling around the rink. :D:D:D

I'm afraid my boy's only time on ice might be as a Zamboni driver. :)

But we'll be cheering SuzanneGra's kid, along with all the other Mariners at the proper time.... And the same for Football, and all the other sports !

Go Mariners. Beat Coast Guard !

Beat Navy in Around Long Island Race last week

NO CONTEST

Our son is a senior wide receiver.

We do have a very supportive group of parents that provide a meal after the games. In the past we have cooked hamburgers, chicken, etc. We even had a pig pickin' last year for the guys. If you aren't contacted ahead of time please come to the postgame meal and introduce yourself. You will be welcomed to join us and spend some great time with the boys.

Can't wait.......Go Mariners.

Huge tailgate???? Sounds like a plan!! I'm in!
