Getting rejected as a transfer and trying again?

Has anybody ever been rejected the first time they applied to transfer and then get accepted the next time they tried? I am currently a freshman and applied to Bryn Mawr, Smith, Vassar, and Wellesley and I didn’t get in anywhere (I haven’t heard from Smith but I’m just going to assume for now). However, I really want to go to one of these schools and I am very unhappy where I am now. My college GPA is definitely not terrible (My cumulative is 3.73, but I’m hoping it will go up more after this quarter) and I’m at UCSD. I definitely plan on reapplying, I just want to know if it’s been done before.

If you plan to apply for next fall, you will have 3 semesters’ worth of grades as opposed to the one this year, which may help, but the problem with transferring to liberal arts schools is that since they are so small and retention rates are usually high, there are very few spots available. If you really don’t like UCSD, I suggest you apply to bigger or transfer friendly schools.

What was your high school GPA? Applying as a transfer student after one semester means they put alot of weight on your high school grades still.

And maybe look at more LACs?

I am definitely looking at other colleges than the ones listed, those are just the ones I know for sure I’d like to go to! However, I do not want to transfer to a larger school, since the size of my school is one of the big reasons I want to transfer.

My high school GPA wasn’t bad, around 3.6/3.7 unweighted and 4.1/4.2 weighted and my ACT was a 30. Definitely not the best, but I struggled with depression my last two years of high school and I did what I could.

I am in pretty much the same boat as you. In all honesty, what I would do is apply again to those schools next semester but also add some similar schools with higher transfer acceptance rates such as Vanderbilt and Wesleyan. Try to boost your college grades too. Also, get involved in an internship or extracurricular activity. Once you do that, your college success will overshadow your high school grades. It doesn’t hurt to give it another go!

Thank you! I’m currently searching for a better job/internship that is related to my job field (I have only worked in retail/food) but that has been pretty difficult. I was very involved in high school and am still pretty involved now but I’m wondering how much it really makes a difference. Either way, I’m trying very hard to get my GPA higher, so we’ll see.

I still haven’t heard from Smith and it would be a dream come true if I just got in but I don’t want to hope for it anymore.

I was accepted into Smith!! This page can be closed now <3
