What to do?

I got denied by umich las Econ today and wanted to know what I need to improve first.

I am applying as a sophomore transfer to umich, uva, Emory, usc, Cornell, washu, nyu, vanderbilt

I got 2A plus one A one B and one C plus in first semester.

Currently I have 3 Aplus one A and one Bplus which I have already sent as midterm report.

I have a 34 in ACT and 3.72 high school gpa.

I have decent ecs such as leader of college club and job etc.

Do u think I was denied at umich because of the C in first semester? What do u guys suggest I work on for better chances of transfer into those schools above. I thought umich was one of the ones where I had a better chance on… Kind of disappointed. Help. Thanks guys.

Anyone?

@joonyblue12 No expert. But it looks like you should get your GPA up. Your first semester was around a 3.5, which isn’t bad, but the schools you are looking at are all top universities. Also keep in mind your a freshman so your HS stats are salient as a prospective sophmore(I see you had a 3.7 but is that UW/W and did you take a rigorous course load) and keep in mind U-M prefers junior transfers. If you can get your GPA up to around a 3.8 for next year you would have a good shot.

But at this point, as tough as it may seem, you just have to relax and keep chugging along. Honestly this whole college admissions game can be kind of worthless. You want to go to a top grad school? great, work hard, get a top GPA/research experience and you will do it, not matter where you go for undergrad. Want to land a top job? Ok, then work hard getting internship experience/connections from early on in college and you will get there.
