So I don’t have a question (though I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts!) as much as I’d like to have this on record for anyone who might face the same problem.
I applied for UCB as a transfer (as well as UCLA and UCSD) thinking there was no way I would ever get in. So I definitely did not factor in the classes I said I would take in te application when I actually registered for classes. Lo and behold, I was only rejected from UCLA, with UCB and UCSD giving the big congrats! However, not only did I not enroll in many of the courses I said I would enroll in (one being linear algebra, which is a prereq for computer science, the only major I applied to UCB with) but I straight up failed (0.0) a micro economics course I said I would take, which resulted in like a 2.8 last quarter. Oh, and I’m also missing calculus 3, which was a prereq for linear algebra at my school. Though I plan on taking calculus 3 and one other course I’m missing from the conditions of admission, leaving only two courses total I wouldn’t take in time for fall (linear algebra and a philosophy class). Otherwise, I’ve fulfilled all the breadth requirements and all that other stuff, I believe. (I’m an OOS student, if that clears some things up.) My overall GPA is hovering at around a high 3.4 right now.
I’ve emailed my admissions officer about the situation and I’m anxiously waiting to hear his reponse. I’m also hoping to get retroactive hardship withdrawal for the micro econ course (which I’m retaking this quarter) because I was during that time I was suffering from a long term mental health issue, which I explained in my email to the admissions officer.
Getting into and going to Cal was never in the realm of possibility for me, but now that it seems like I had the chance and ruined it, which is really getting to me. I hope I didn’t but I am definitely preparing for that reality. If anyone has any similar experiences, I would love to hear your input! Likewise if you’re in a similar situation!
Anyway, great job to all the admits out there! You worked hard to get to this point and you have a bright future ahead!
