whats the best train to take? looking at amtraks fares to 30th street it is 60$, isnt there something cheaper from nj transit? im having trouble finding it if it exists, but im sure i took it last time i was there.

penn station New York?

There is a NJT train to take. You take one to Trenton from Penn Station, and then take the Septa to Penn, for a grand total of 17 each way.

If you are talking about Newark Penn Station, you can probably take the same train to Trenton.

Best reasonably-priced way to get from Philly to NYC: Chinatown Bus. It's $20 roundtrip, or $12 one way. They operate coach buses out of Chinatown about every hour (but they really just wait until the buses are full instead of following a schedule); it's a little bit shady, but I've taken it several times and had my friends use it as well without any form of injuries or major inconveniences arising. It's about a 2 hour ride, depending on traffic, which is similar to the train. I'd recommend the New Century line..google it.

erxt. is right. penn station to trenton on the NJ transit then take a shuttle to the SEPTA west Trenton station, and take the train straight to Penn.

You don't need a shuttle, you can just walk from the NJ Transit to SEPTA at the Trenton station.

Amtrak is quicker as it has fewer stops and no transfer, so if you put a premium on that, go for it. But NJ Transit is really the way to go.

I'd suggest the trains over the busses, just less sketchy.

I'd suggest taking a cab from the 30th Street Station to campus if you have a lot of stuff, or if it is dark and/or you are alone.

Hmm, I dunno how much it costs (id bet amtrak.com does though). Avoid penn stations pizza hut, the pizza has been sitting out for hours and is cold and disgusting. Also, madison square gardens is right outside, so take some pics. (wait, you probobly dont care for any of this touristy stuff do you.) Still, i think that it would be expensive. Amtrak is nice, but i dont think it would be worth a lot of extra money. always check the website of the various buses etc. sometimes you can find deals. have fun on your trip!

(lol i just went to new york during winter break so i know this)

Go chinatown bus if you want the best deal.

ditto bout chinatown buses.

take amtrak to Phila

take NJIT train to Trenton then switch to SEPTA for 30th station(Phila) cheaper option but longer
