getting to washington dc

how hard is it to get from the campus to dc without a car? is the public transportation offered frequent/inexpensive? Do students regularly take trips there? Thanks!

There's a shuttle from school to the Metro (and back) and then trains that will get you close to most places. It seems there's a long walk if you want to get to Georgetown. I think many students take advantage of the proximity to DC. Cost is reasonable.

Public transit runs $4 per trip during rush hour, $2 otherwise. Trains run every 6-12 minutes. Due to transfers and frequent maintenance projects, Georgetown and most sites (except the U Street nightclub district) are at least a half-hour away. Also, the subway is about 5 min ride / 20 min walk from campus.
That doesn't dissuade most students though.

hm...are there any sort of discounts on public transit if you have a membership or something? I'm trying to figure out if an internship in DC is a viable option this fall.

Some internships/jobs will give you Metrochek, which will cover transportation on WMATA transit (Metro).
