So I know that Rice admits students to the University, without assigning them a major. What I want to know is, how does one choose a subject to major in? Are the options available contingent on your performance in the first year? If so, how easy or difficult is to get the major of your choice? (note: I'm thinking of majoring in chemical engineering)

Besides music and architecture (which have their own schools), you can major in anything you’d like. There aren’t any contingencies based on your performance.

you just choose the classes you need for the major, that’s it… however it is basically impossible to complete an engineering degree on time unless you start working on it from the first semester you get here.
