So what would you say is the easiest major to get into Rice? Psychology,Kinesiology,Sociology all seem easier to get into Rice than biochem or chem. If y`all have any experience will friends who got into rice by choosing a major that allowed them to get in easier please share. Thanks!

I don’t know what major is easiest to get into, so I won’t comment on that. When you apply, I think they only really pay attention to the school (school of engineering, etc). I advise you to be wary of responses to this question. No one can possibly know from their own experience, since you only ever apply to one school. How would you know that you wouldn’t have gotten in if you said you were doing social sciences instead of engineering or vice versa?

Also, in the words of the Office of Admissions, “The decision should not be made lightly. We are looking for a thoughtful response to this question. Our academic schools are looking for different strengths and qualities in applicants, so you will need to choose the school in which you feel the most confident of your abilities and interest.” So if you are not interested in psychology, you will hurt yourself by pretending to want to do psychology on your application, even if the admissions rates are statistically higher (which I have no idea about).

Rice knows that people do pick different majors than what was initially declared. So honestly, across schools there isn’t much of a difference (if any) of the caliber of student they will admit in the different schools, with the exception of Music and Architecture. I think if anything the only thing related to picking a major that would help you be admitted to Rice is if you have demonstrated interest in that area as a high schooler (e.g. picking a psychology major if you have done psychology research in high school).
