Do roommates tend to get the same move-in times? My D hasn’t received her packet yet, but her roommate did and has a 9 am move in time. Does anyone know what the earliest move in time is?

@soCalDad2 , The desk and drawer are separate. But indeed, there are rooms in Gillette (certainly not all of the rooms) where you essentially have no choice but to loft both beds. There are other rooms in Gillette that are perhaps the largest on Commons with room for two unlofted beds, a futon, extra chairs, etc.

@yellowgranite56 My move-in time is 8 am, I think that would probably be the earliest, I just can’t imagine them being able to get people in to help and work before then, especially if they’re using upperclassmen, haha!

7:00am is the earliest.

That’s our time.

Ugh.

There wsa a definite advantage to having a kid in the band. He moved in on Tuesday. We had help from upperclass band members to move everything to his room. It was nice to not have to deal with two families in the room at the same time We also could use the hall to build the shelves.

He’s still in the marching band so he’ll be moving in early again. It will also go a lot faster this year since he knows how he likes stuff arranged. My only concern is that the closet will be smaller than he had last year.

It’s a fun and exciting time!

@KaMaMom Just curious, what will your family be doing for breakfast on the day of? We were thinking of just doing hotel breakfast, since we weren’t sure what the restaurants in and around Nashville would be like.

@susieanne … we were just joking that the 4 of us (her sister is coming too) will be very blurry eyed at the hotel continental breakfast that morning. So yes, just the hotel.

I am NOT a morning person and I figure we will most likely need to be in the car on the way to campus by 6:15am.

At least we’ll be done early! :)

The picture on the last page of the online Move-In Guide appears to provide valuable information about bed lofting. If you don’t lower the bed all the way, you will have room under the bed for the chests of drawers. While the bed still would be fairly high, you won’t need a ladder to get to it. With the chests out of the way under the bed, even the smallest rooms should have enough space for unlofting.

KakaMom;

7am move in time is the easiest, you are first in line for staging, and there’s no backup in waiting. Get to the waiting/staging area around 6:40-6:45am for staging. After the move in (which will take just a few minutes–the move in crew will be enthusiastic and fresh) and some initial scoping out the room and getting settled, then go to the Commons for breakfast that day. It will be where your S or D eats a lot of their meals, and it is inexpensive, quite good food, lots of options, and available to parents that day. Then you can go back to the room, unpack, and make your list of things you have to buy at Target/Bed Bath and Beyond/Container Store or the grocery.

@vandyswim brilliant idea eating at the Commons! We’ve had a few meals there on visits (even when we took DD15 to visit Belmont over spring break we had lunch there) and love it!

KaMaMom,

It also gives you a nice break to walk away from the initial move in stress (and stumbling over roommate’s parents and siblings) and allows some ideas to percolate on things you might need to buy/rearrange/etc.

@vandyswim … we’re actually lucking out in that department - her roommate is in marching band and is moving in tomorrow! But I definitely agree - it will be a nice break and we will most likely take her roommate out to breakfast with us.

My son is in a triple in Hank Ingram house. I just called school as we have not received a packet yet and we fly to Nashville on Tuesday. The pdf did not include floor plans for “Hank House”. I’m assuming that is because it wasn’t built yet? Does anyone know about these rooms? He is in 407. Thank you.

My son was on the 4th floor in Hank last year. He wasn’t in a triple but had friends in a triple on that floor. Those rooms are at the ends of the halls on the corners and are very large. All the rooms feel large with the high ceilings and are bright due to the large windows. My son loved living in Hank last year, I hope your son does too! Good-luck!

Thanks Momthreeboys. That is precious info you share for a worried Mom!
