What does the typical college girl wear around campus?

Jeans? T-shirt or blouse?

I need a more college-oriented wardrobe, pronto.

Also, the lower the price, the better.

I usually wear a t-shirt, jeans, and flip-flops. I get my jeans at Target or Wal-Mart, and my t-shirts from all over. Payless has good shoes.

I never understand this whole… I need to go make a whole new wardrobe cause I’m going to college now. Clothes are clothes… you can wear exactly what you have been for years.

I can agree with your views Vanechka. Its up to our choices to be comfort in wearing clothes.

You can wear almost anything. Some will always wear casual stuff, some people always like to dress up. “Typical” style can depend on the college though…some have more of the “rolled out of bed 5 minutes before class” look and some really don’t. I brought a variety of stuff, including sweatshirts, t-shirts, and jeans to everything like dresses and skirts, so all different things.

It does depend on the college. We visited a lot of schools, and some were more “dressy” than others. At some you wouldn’t see any girls in sweatpants or baggy sweatshirts, at others you would. At some everyone had makeup on and looked like they had put in some effort, at others the schlubby look was okay. So it depends on where you are going… D1 picked a college where schlubby is okay (although now she has to dress at least in business casual for a part time internship near campus 4 days a week – go figure).

At my school I think it’s half and half. A lot of girls are athletes here so it’s common to see them wearing athletic shorts, a T-shirt, and their hair up in a pony-tail. Other times I see them getting dressed up in nice sandals, skirts, cardigans, and blouses. I wear jeans with a nice shirt and sandals usually. Somedays I just wear a sweatshirt and jeans.

Style will change depending on the college. Wear what you like and is comfortable. Especially shoes.

Generally I wear either a t shirt, shorts and sneakers or a nicer shirt, jeans, and flats/boots. It depends on the weather and what I have to do for that day. If I’m planning to meet with a professor or working, I generally go for a more put-together look.

TJ Maxx is one of my favorite stores. You can find entire outfits there for pretty good prices. I also like Target, Forever 21 and Gap (clearance racks haha). Keep in mind that you don’t need a TON of clothes- you just need to shop smart and look for things that can build a wardrobe, not just a new shirt to put in your closet.

People here are a lot more relaxed than in high school. Girls just roll out of bed in jeans and a t-shirt and wear tennis shoes or whatever’s comfortable. Around the dorm, we’re even more relaxed, wandering barefoot in pajama bottoms and a sweatshirt. A lot of girls are happy-ish to be away from their boyfriends because they don’t have to worry about what they wear. And your hall’s like your family, so no one cares what you wear. But some people are still into all the fashion things, and that’s fine. But honestly, just wear what’s comfortable because no one’s paying attention.

College is kind of a time for you to discover your own personal style. Wear what feels comfortable and what makes you happy.

Things to avoid: anything high school related, like “___school 2015!” or whatever.

Agreed. Other than weather-related updates (went from TX to MA), I’m still wearing the same stuff, some of which dates back from 7th grade or so.

If your clothing passes the “decency standard”, doesn’t smell, isn’t too worn, and isn’t completely ridiculous, people don’t really care. I’ve seen people wearing three-piece suits, people wearing sweats, people not wearing shoes, and tons of people wearing the free shirts Dropbox gives out around here.

Agreed. Although I do see people wearing HS stuff around here. No letterman jackets yet, though.

Wear what you want to wear. What I wear is dressier than 80% of the girls at my school, but that’s my style. I rarely wear t-shirts outside of the house and I never wear athletic style pants. But there are plenty of girls who wear t-shirts or tank tops with yoga pants every day. No one cares.

Nothing high school related! You will look like a nostalgic twat.

Mix it up is the key, there are many teenagers and young adults, if you want to be noticed, go for something different. There are many characters at college and pretty much every style is there, just in varying degrees. I know as a guy I’m really getting into blazers at college.

egh, wear whatever you want, but it gets seriously boring to see every girl wearing an oversize ugly tshirt, gym shorts, and nikes. have some creativity!

^ That’s what I was getting at, creativity. Lose your inhibitions a bit and get outside of your comfort zone. Am I right in saying that every thread on here comes down to social anxiety?

^Or ignorance.

Wear whatever you want and stop caring what everyone else thinks.

^ But people wouldn’t care if they weren’t socially anxious about it

My comment was that every thread on CC boils down to either anxiety (if that’s what you call being self-conscious; that’s not what it is, but that’s what I’m assuming you mean) or ignorance.

Wear sweats, nice dresses, suits, high school attire, nothing, whatever. Do what you want.
