Give me your advice, should I drop this course?

I am a first year U of Toronto student.

I just got my calculus I midterm back: 43%

***! Seriously, I know it's a ridiculous grade! According to the prof, the class avg is 65%!

After I got it back and checked my answers, I realized I made the most stupid mistakes in a few questions, and during the test I got so nervous because there were only 15 mins left that I forgot to complete some exercises. I went blank! I would have gotten around 70% if it weren't for those silly mistakes :(

This midterm was worth 30% of the final grade. The final will be 65% and some little quizes are worth 5%.

I don't think the course is hard, it is calculus, it is not supposed to be easy but with practice it is pretty cool. Unfortunately, I am worried the same thing will happen to me on my final exam.

If everything goes right and I get all the quizzes correctly (5%) , I would have 17.9% of my grade (43% of the 30% exam + 5% of the quizzes). I need 50% to pass the course, that means I must get at least a 50% on my final.

What is your advice?

I have 3 days before the dropping courses deadline is met!

If you only need a 50% and your mistakes really were that trivial, don’t drop. But study hard for the final. Try to recreate test-like conditions, like sitting in an empty classroom and doing problems.

And I don’t get what bell curving grading is… I read that if you are way below the average (like I am) it usually gets you an even worse grade so I’ll probably have to aim for a better grade… U of T is known for bell curve grading :s
