I've seen a lot of people asking for chances putting down giving blood as volunteer work. Not helping run the program, actually donating blood themselves. How is this possibly considered community service? And how could they convert that into hours?

It's not exactly something anyone can do considering their weight and sexual orientation restrictions.

The standard conversion rate (SCR) is approximately 3 hours of standardized community service (SCS) per 1 pint of drawn blood, as stated in the Official US Community Service Hours Guidelines 2011-2012 handbook, section 35.12.8A

Riding horses is not exactly something everyone can do depending on where they live, their income and access, etc. Sports is not something all people can do nor is tough academics.

My kids who are old enough and I donate blood. I think it is something that can be listed because it shows that the donor is thinking beyond his or her own selfish interests. While it is true that not everyone can participate, the same can be said for many of the EC’s listed on this site.
