So I went to this weird online college fair and one of the presentations was on a program called Global College (a branch of Long Island University). They said that they offer only a four year degree in global studies (basically liberal arts).

So anyway, you first live in Costa Rica with a foreign family and take some classes centered around Hispanic culture. The next two years are pretty much the same, but you spend it in like India and China. Your fourth year is what really confuses me.... You get to live abroad anywhere and participate in a local charity work!?!

It seems sort of fishy to me. The students that have participated in this program claim that most employers don't care what they studied in college; they just care about their experience in traveling. This last bit kind of got me.

I know of two people who have gone here, and while I don’t know what those people’s employment prospects are, I’ve heard (secondhand, both times) that the college is fantastic and that they loved it. Look at Global College’s website; if you’re into travel, it looks amazing. Only thing is the cost of all that airfare, and tuition isn’t exactly cheap either…But I would go there is I could.

If you go to their website, they have alumni interviews. Think of it as something similar to St. John’s College - prepares you for Masters, PhD or some other degree.

Hey guys. This is kinda unrelated, but i was wondering of anyone knows the selectivity of LIU global…

I would like to know how selective it is. Is it hard to get into? Like what are my chances?

Here are some stats-
I will be a senior in HS this coming year. I have a 3.8 GPA and a challenging schedule (5 out of 8 classes were AP Junior year, 4 out of 8 senior year). I have a 27 on my ACT, but I just started taking it, and I’m hoping to improve my score by 3-4 points.

I have international ties in Northern Ireland and Uganda. I participated in an exchange/ peace-conflict resolution program in which i got to host a student from northern Ireland for a month and also got to go to N.Ireland for the summer. I founded a program that builds water cisterns in southern Uganda. I hope to go to Uganda soon.

I also do loads of volunteer work (i have 250+ hours for this past year). I am involved in community theatre and acting. I do speech and debate, i write for the school newspaper, I’m president of the service club, I’m a member of the Spanish club and art club, I’m in choir and Drama club, etc… (and whatever i’m forgetting.)

It would mean the world to me if someone could get back to me on this. Thanks
