Kid was excited and applied for Global Village for housing. I’m reading reviews and some say it’s a party dorm that allows alcohol on hall due their age. Is this a good place for a freshman? Anyone have experience with this dorm. The theme does fit kid’s interest.
Hoping someone comes in with an opinion. My DS didn’t apply for Global, but did pick Alexandria as a dorm choice, since it has a central campus location and proximity to Metcalf (which houses the Engineering Village). He is really serious about his studies…
My S is a senior at Sate and D18 is seriously leaning toward attending. She asked him about that dorm and he said it’s got a reputation for being a party dorm.
Yup–I’ve heard this on several fronts (Reddit and Here). Kid changed his choice
Well… shoot. I think that’s the only one Central Campus with hall style dorms.
I just wanted to follow up as a Coda to this thread. Originally, we required that son change his dorm preference, but son begged (and we relented). Son decided to live in International Dorm and has been so happy with his decision. Yes, there are kids that drink (as some are over 21), but my son says “it’s like a frat without the bad parts of being in a frat.” He’s found an active social life with dorm members and really enjoys the international perspective. We view this as a very good decision.
