Hi guys,
I’ve already applied RD to American - I’m also applying for the Douglass Distinguished Scholars program, and am hoping to be selected for the Honors Program at AU. My question is this - is it worth applying to Global Scholars as well (I am also very interested in this program)? I know it is very selective to get into any of these three programs, but purely hypothetically, is it possible to participate in all three? Meaning a full scholarship for 3 years in International Studies while participating in the honors program. I know that sounds absolutely crazy, and I probably wouldn’t even want to do that intense a program, but should I apply for GS as well?
Thanks!

During orientation, we met students who were in regular Honors and Global Scholars. Not sure about the Douglass Distinguished Scholars.

go for it, the application is easy and free. Even if you get accepted you can always decide later its not for you and go back to the normal SIS route.

If you’re a Global Scholar you are automatically in Honors, I believe the same goes for the Frederick Douglass. But I’m not sure if there’s anyone who is both a Global Scholar and a Frederick Douglass Distinguished scholar but I don’t think there’s any rule that says you can’t be.

@auedguy Actually you are not automatically admitted to the Honors program if you’re a Global Scholar. The AU website states in their GS FAQ section:
“Q: Can students be in both the Honors Program and the Global Scholars Program?
A: Yes, students in the Global Scholars Program can also be in the Honors Program. In most cases, you will be able to fulfill your Global Scholars and Honors requirements concurrently.”

Nayapapya seems to be right. I was recently admitted into gs but as far as I know, not honors

has anyone been notified about anything concerning frederick douglass so far? they never even sent me a confirmation that they got my application to the program (and by looking through threads from previous years it looks like they had told people their applications were being processed…) so i’m a little concerned that somehow they never got my application :(

I applied for FDDS too but I never got any sort of email confirmation either…I did however print out the confirmation page that my application had been submitted so I have proof.

Did anyone get a confirmation of receipt of their Global Scholars application? I’m also getting nervous.

I received a confirmation email today about the FDDS program. We’llhear more info by March 1st

just got the confirmation email too!

Has anyone who got the confirmation e-mail heard back yet? Will they tell us if we’re not being considered?

i haven’t heard back either. if you are a semifinalist you’ll from them by march 1…idk if they contact those who did not qualify. so we wait…

Gah this wait is torture. I got an email confirmation that they are reviewing maybe 2 weeks ago. It said semi-finalists will be notified by March 1st. But someone else on CC said they were selected a week and a half ago and have to write 10 essays by march 9th or so to be a finalist. Has anyone else heard news?

I saw that post too, although I am not quite sure how reliable it is haha.

At this point I’m just hoping to hear something soon from American. I’m pretending that I didn’t see that post haha. *reload inbox. *reload inbox.

I am telling the truth. I created this cc account to see if anyone else was selected as a semifinalist for the FDDS program. I wouldn’t make all of this info up. That’s pretty silly A current scholar called me and told me I was a semifinalist around 2 weeks ago. Maybe one of the scholars will notify the rest of the semifinalists tomorrow.
