I'm interested an International Relations major or something of that nature. I've been looking at Loyola and they have a major called "Global Studies", which sort of seems like a survey of all international topics. How does the Global Studies program at Loyola compare to other International Relations programs? Is it a strong program, or is it not as strong as other programs at Loyola/other programs at other universities? Loyola would be a safety school for me, so if I choose it, I'd want it to still be a fairly strong program.

You’re better off just majoring in political science with a language minor. Global studies is seen as a bit of a “fluff” major and an IR major(at a school with an IR major) often leaves students without a well rounded understanding of politics and law that is truly needed to work in IR. Then when you apply to grad school you can get an extra copy of your transcript and highlight the international classes. Any graduate program for IR is going to require language proficiency so a language minor is helpful.

Also the polisci professors went to reputable schools and are very well-connected in the field.
