anyone here received an invitation from Global Young Leaders Conference?? im wondering what this is exactly - i mean... do they randomly select a candidate from their database or what?

They get your name from schools, from talent searches. Frankly not prestigious and costly.

so i guess they randomly chose ppl cos i dont think im that 'talented' and plus... i dont really have that much leadership in my school. hmm.. this sort of invitation is really weird...

You got is because you are smart? No?
My 7th grade daughter got an invite. Same w/the People to People deal.

It's a scam. There are posts about this I think in hte college admissions board.. if you search you will pull up tons of results about how they are just scams. I got one too, as well as some of the unlikeliest people from my school.

I am not sure I would say it is a "scam" -- GYLC and other things like Close-up, NSLC, People to People, etc. are academic enrichment programs. They are marketed to tons of high school students every year -- and though the letters say something like you have been selected, in fact they just purchased your names somehow.

There are pros to such programs, but the biggest con is the cost of the program. Just do a google search and you will find tons of academic enrichment programs -- and remember you can also spend your summer on a college campus like the JHU Pre-College program.

I think college programs are really the way to go if you want to spend that kind of money on a program/don't have anything better to over the summer. I went to one this past summer, and it was amazing! It was very expensive, yes (transporation and everything lumped together brought me to about $6,000), but it was a ton of fun and I learned a lot.. and got college credit for my class.

Well any one knows where can i get funding from!
