I was accepted to NYU's GLS program (global liberal studies). At first I was really excited, but as I've looked at it I've become more and more wary. How difficult would it be for me to transfer into say the college of arts and sciences? I want to study international relations and political science.

It’s a brand new program so it’s only natural to be a little scared. It’s relatively easy to transfer from any other school into CAS since CAS is so big and broad.

For the international relations major though, it’s an honors major in which you have to apply to at the end of your freshmen year, minimum GPA of 3.6 or 3.7, I forgot which.

So I say give GLS a chance, if you don’t like it, just apply to the IR major at the end of the year. If you don’t make it in, I think it’d be better for you to stay in GLS since it’ll cater your career choices better. You can always double major in PoliSci I believe.

seconding the “it’s easy to transfer into CAS” chorus. i’ve never heard of anyone that’s been rejected who applied to internally transfer to CAS.
