Has anyone been contacted for the Glynn Honors Program?
We’ve been wondering the same thing. Not sure if invites haven’t gone out or we just didn’t receive one.
My daughter got her invitation to apply via email last year on 2/23. You should also get an info packet in the mail.
@waitingmomla Was your DD REA or RD?
@Virgmom She was REA. My understanding is that they give out 200 total invites. 100 to College of Arts & Letters and 100 to College of Science. You do a video interview on your computer, with a program that gives you questions that you don’t get in advance. The interview is recorded, just you and the camera, not a live interview with anyone from ND. Then they pick 50 students from each college. I don’t know what the split is between REA and RD in terms of who gets the offers.
DD just got an invitation tonight. I didn’t get much info from her but I think the video interview is due by the 23rd
I got the invite tonight by email as well and what @virgmom says is true!
got the invite tonight and it talks about a video interview. I’m really confused about what that means. Do they just ask you a question and you have to record your answer by video or is it a live video chat sort of thing?
@syd24ranger, There’s no human prompter, it just gives you a few questions that you answer on your own.
Got mine a few days ago… what is the experience like?
About the interview, if I do some practice responses, do I have to go directly to the real interview afterward? Or can I practice and then log out?
Anyone have experience with the actual program? Good/not-so-good experiences?
@dimsumnoodles You are able to practice and come back at a later time. The questions will be different but have a similar feel.
My son applied RD and still waiting on Honors College. What do you think his chances are? His GPA is 5.2/4.0 scale; 33 ACT (34 superscored), 5’s on all AP tests, NHS president, 8A State Varsity Football champ etc. Are his stats comparable to those in this thread? This waiting game is emotion!
Are RD applicants notified later? Or have all offers been already made, even to those who applied RD?
Hi, I’m a current Glynn Student who wanted to figure out RD decisions dates and stumbled upon this thread — to answer your question about the actual program @KathyV, I can say it’s amazing. I didn’t want to accept my admission into it initially because I thought it would be more work, but most Notre Dame students end up doing similar amounts of work, regardless of Glynn. It’s really just a program filled with amazing deep-thinkers.
That’s why I would say those stats don’t really matter at all @CatherineF . I’m sure your son is incredibly smart, but Glynn looks for a “type” and they do a pretty good job of identifying the right students. They’re looking for the kids who major in music AND math, or those who major in biochemistry but take 9 creative writing classes just for the fun of it—the kids who stay up late at night discussing really deep topics with friends and who actually do all the reading, just for the fun of it. I can tell you that my first conversation with Glynn kids during Wecome Weekend descended into a debate on God’s existence within 10 minutes. It was really fun and insightful. Hope this helps! You will all love Notre Dame, regardless of Glynn! Go Irish!
@drymango Thank you for your response! My S is our first to go to college so I really enjoy the information disseminated in this forum. I was not informed last month when I posted My S applied RD to the Mendoza College of Business. I do not believe the Honors College applies to these students, however, please correct me if you are wrong. Do you think his credentials are similar to yours for an acceptance RD into the University? REALLY glad to hear you are doing so well in the program.
@CatherineF You’re spot on — Glynn is only for Arts and Letters, Science, and Architecture. Your son would still have amazing, similar opportunities in Mendoza though!
I can’t say for certain whether or not your son will get in, but he has a really great shot based on his stats! Good luck!
@DryMango Thank you! We are from the Chicagoland area and the top schools he is considering are: Villanova, Boston College, Harvard and Notre Dame. As we approach “decision time” I’m starting to feel anxious with him going out east. Notre Dame looks pretty good from a proximity standpoint.
Anyone know when we’ll hear back? I know the email said “early April” so I’m hoping soon!
