God, you people are unbelievable.

This is so…fascinating. The arguments, or should I say discussions, are very exciting. ;)

My tiny brain could not process half of the things in this topic, so I’ll try to give a statement that makes sense as much as I can. (Also, I didn’t read the whole thread or the other threads, so I’m not very well-informed about this topic.)

The whining thing, don’t we all whine once in a while? I know my school does not have that much work load, but I still whine about it.

Part of it is that Exeter is a more popular school (not boasting, totally based on observations), and has a bigger (just a tad) population than some schools, so we hear more from those students than students from Hotchkiss, Groton, Concord, etc.

Complaining is part of a teenager’s life! (Well at least MY life.)

I don’t think that whining about our workload is really a part of Exeter’s culture; I think that it has more to do with the fact that we hear so often that “Exeter is the hardest boarding school,” “Exeter is so much more stressful that Andover,” etc. that some of us start to feel that Exeter life can be more stressful than life at other boarding schools. (NOTE: I’m not saying that Exeter is more stressful or harder or better than other boarding schools. Nor am I suggesting that Exeter isn’t stressful or emotionally draining. It is; I know that firsthand, being a student there.) That’s just my theory, though.

I think ultima is justified in feeling that Exeter can be incredibly stressful and draining, and in being irritated that sometimes saying that aloud is dismissed as the whining of “angsty pretentious Exonians.” However, the delivery is tactless, rude, and rather pretentious, and that, I think, is where the problem lies. I apologize if I offended anyone, but that’s just my take on it all.

Exeter is a great School statistically, but has always seemed a rather humorless exercise in its cold, windswept churning out of elite thinkers. I don’t mind the hard, but I also like the happy. Balance is everything.

The OP was such a babyyyyy
yak yak yak

I think it would be nice if you all would just shut up. You know, ultima88, you’re critisizing these people for sticking up for their schools when you’re doing the same for Exeter. You’re doing the same thing they’re doing and you posting this immature, innappropriate rant is completely unneccessary.

All of us quite obviously think our school is the best, it’s called school spirit. It’s pretty apparent that if you go to Deerfield you’re not going to say “Oh yeah, Exeter is the best!” or if you go to Choate that you’re going to say “Yeah Choate is nice but Groton’s academics! Wow!”

I don’t see the point of this thread and I don’t get why you’re making such a big deal over it.

Who is Jasmyn?

Who is John Galt?

John Galt is a fictional character in Ayn Rand’s novel Atlas Shrugged.

I haven’t ever been to a BS, nor have I read the original thread that prompted this (actually I haven’t even HEARD of Exeter or Deerfield or any of those schools… the midwest > east coast if this is what you New Englanders have to deal with!) but I vote you cut the OP a little slack: no need to gang up on him/her when s/he was just trying to share some advice. If you don’t want to listen, simply don’t listen.

Sometimes people forget that there is a person on the other end of the computer - it’s so easy to forget you’re dealing with people on the internet. Would you talk to a person in real life the way you are talking to the OP?

fasho
i treat all whiners the same

Why are you going on a rant about how great exeter is and how everything else sucks, isn’t that hypocritical? Exeter is probably great, but other schools are possibly great as well. I mean exeter is one of the schools I’m applying to and I would love to get in.

also the suicide thing makes me feel a little bit apprehensive about Exeter

this is a loser thread
Any on who post on this thread and doesnt call it loser is loser
delete it!
you all are really babys even you ultima88

While visiting DA, a student mentioned the suicide concept in terms of exeter and why he chose DA instead, it is first I had heard of it

It was before we got our tour of exeter and i believe it was one of the reasons that it went to the bottom of d’s list.

We still applied but it is not our top choice anymore

After touring exeter, my d said it was really big, like a little university of chicago, we are from chicago, but she studies Japanese and it one of the few schools that offer it

the person who made this thread is quite the hypocrite…i love exeter but she says that everyone is so ignorant for saying that their school is prestigious as exeter because they haven’t been there…it’s not like she has been to any of those other HADES schools! Besides that type of exeter workload excites me so don’t call me ignorant…I have no sufficient personal life so it’s not like this girl should perceive ccers as such “middle clique children”…if we are, then why are we on cc instead of facebook?

I love how all the people trying to defend themselves (as well as the original poster) use proper grammar and big words to show that they’re not “childish”. Whatever, I know I would do that too if I was you guys.
Personally, I think we should all just relax a bit. All the schools mentioned here are no doubt prestigious, I think we can all agree on that, but each in its own way. Whichever one you end up at is gonna be a good education. I agree with the original poster that schooling is what you make of it, and no matter what school everyone here ends up at, I’m sure they’ll do fine. The very fact that we’re all on here obsessing about the exact date acceptance letters come and asking others to “chance” us, shows that we’re pretty driven and want to do well in highschool. We have to realize that what we’re doing is insane. Spending $40,000 for highschool, when people around the world are starving and we could go to public school for free? You can’t deny the crazyness of that, and yet we’re gonna do it anyway, because we love to learn and we believe in it. We’re all in the same boat, and squabbling over one school vs. another will succeed only in making us more stressed and more obssessed with this insane process we have all chosen to put ourselves through.

This is a pretty old and dead thread.

it is not dead, i have revived it with my considerable charm and wisdom.
just kidding… it is realllly old

“Driven” or “insecure”?

I vote the latter.

Alright, if you go to High School for its reputation then you should rethink your priorities - and whether or not you’re mature enough yet to choose one.
