respond on aim

I believe in God 100%. And I believe 100% that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. And I will never renounce my religion.

Good for you. But is there anything wrong with those of us who thnik that is a bunch of bs?

extemp, it can be your birthday present to me, but i want to talk to you on AIM

god is there.. and these turn of event shappen because he gave us free will... he looking at us he veiwing .. us hes not conorllign our destiny.. he set you on a path and it is your choice to follow.. i admit i used to tets him but he has giving me somehting i ask for and everything happened for a reaoxn.. and how dare someone make the statement that science disproves god.. couldn't it be taht god created science and he used it for evolution i mean we are all his creatuires so why not let hem evolve out of each other...

Science doesn't disprove God, it just gives people a chance to no longer believe in Him if they want answers. What I mean by this is when the Bible was first written there was no way to know things like the Big Bang or evolution so if you wanted to know where people came from you had no options other than to turn to the Bible (or whatever other mythological source). Thanks to science, today you can know how the natural world works, within reason, without assuming it's all due to a deity.
Of course, it's important to note that science is about stating facts and not the conclusions. For example, when the Big Bang was discovered the pope at the time excitedly said that "science has proved Genesis" as it was the first time that it was scientifically shown that the universe had a beginning. The man who first proposed the theory, a Jesuit priest named Lemaitre, responded by telling the pope that he shouldn't make such statements as science is independent of anybody's interpretations of the results. This basically means that while one person can look into the Big Bang and say "aha, this is proof that you need no God!" another person can just as easily look and say "aha, this is proof that you don't need God!" It is not the role of science to say which of these two views is right or wrong, as it is, of course, a matter of faith.

how dare someone make the statement that science disproves god
[/quote]

i dont think anybody has made that "statement" here...

the basic gist is that science helps explain many of the things that were previously explained by God. As science has filled in more of those holes, God naturally becomes less and less important.

of course, your argument that God runs science is valid, but using Ockham's razor, it is unecessary.

I'm making the statement that science disproves God. Unless you want to realllllllllly be obnoxious and **** off my buddy Ockham, but then I'll insist that the FSM [very methodically] creates gravity by pushing us toward massive objects with His Noodly Appendages.

this threa dis making me really mad.. its like insulting my religion......... and caling it false... so how come everyone blast god.. but not the other gods... or buddhism????????

buddhism doesn't technically have a god.
at least according to my parents, who are lifelong practicing buddhists.

I'm not specifically making fun of the judeo-christian theisms for any reason other than i know them the best. the better you know something, the more you can argue about its many, many flaw and holes. and aobut you feeling insulted...frankly scarlet my dear...

stick up for yourself. give me your aim name and we'l duke it out there.

"this threa dis making me really mad.. its like insulting my religion......... and caling it false... so how come everyone blast god.. but not the other gods... or buddhism????????"

I haven't read the rest of this thread. But, I will actually say that science neither proves nor disproves God. I'm an agnostic, so I ride the fence, but I think you are stupid if you keep insisting that God exists, regardless of what evidence you have. I also think it is stupid that people triumphantly boast that they will never give up their faith. Sorry, but you should make opinions based on the information you have. I could make many nonsensical statements, and if I "never renounced" them, I would look like a fool (and I would be one as well).

I don't give a **** if you're mad or not. And there is nothing wrong with insulting your religion if it is based on baseless conclusions. Similarly, if you provide cogent arguments, feel free to bash my religion.

And why must we bash other gods? Equality? You bash my god, I bash yours? BTW, Buddhism doesn't have a clear conception of god, though they believe in something like a soul...which, philosophically, is more debatable.

What makes me sick is when an athlete gives God the credit after he wins a sporting event. Case in point, Dwayne Wade thanking God after the Heat won the NBA finals last week. Yes, Dwayne, it wasn't those hours of practice that you and your teammates put in over the last 10 months. It wasn't the 600,000 shots you've taken on playgrounds across the country during the course of your life. It wasn't your mother encouraging you to follow your dreams and play college basketball. It was the almighty, all-glorious God. Do you hear yourself? I might just kill you.

And furthermore, when's the last time you heard an athlete blame Jesus after a devastating loss? Why was Jesus pulling for your team to win and not the other team? Why the **** would Jesus gives two ****s about the godamn NBA finals anyways?! I like the way you play Dwayne Wade, but you're an idiot.

Agreed, that also ****ed me off. It's like he didn't have any control over his game, mysterious god was in control.

And is much as the following saying ****es me off, I was jokingly using it and it stopped making me mad:

"Could an omnipotent [all powerful for the theists out there, and I won't debate this] being, eg God, Jesus, the FSM, etc., create an object so massive that said being could not move it?"

If yes (or something to the effect of "God can do anything"): Then God can't move the object, and you just contradicted yourself.

If no (or somethign to the effect of...well...god can do anything, just this time it's moving the object) then u either didnt'/cant read my statement or you're saying that God can't do anything.

Either way, you are contradicticing yourself. Therefor, omnipotentce is a paradox.

QED, *****es.

as (somebody whose name i have forgotten) said, when players win, they thank god. when players lose, they can also thank god.

God is love.

That's a bit of a suckerpunch...are you saying that because I denounce God, I denounce love? God, and I thought house ended 40 minutes ago...

No........
