Hi, I’m planning to attend community college and then transfer to a UC university.
Is it possible to transfer after a year? If so, what would I put on the application? They have educational goals and it lists:
-obtain associate degree and transfer to 4 year institution
-transfer to 4 year institution without associate degree
Which one would i pick?
Also, any advice/info on transferring from a community college to a UC university would be appreciated.
Thanks!!
Info I might need:
How much classes/units should I be expected to complete in order to transfer after a year?
Is it a better idea to transfer after two years?
I was going to ask the same question. Still looking for the answer
I am not very much aware about online colleges, but I heard that almost all big universities including Harvard, MIT, etc. offer online courses. I am also pursuing online MBA
@ahanasingh I am not pursuing online courses.
UCs only take Junior level transfers almost always. You won’t get accepted with only one year.
Probably you want to transfer without the AA degree and just focus on the classes and prereqs for th 4 year major that you plan to obtain rather than taking the extra classes that might be required for an AA, but might not be needed for transfer. This is the sort of thing you plan and discuss with the transfer office at your CC after you enroll. A lot of CCCs have articulation agreements with the UCs and there will be planned course requirements you need to make you a good transfer candidate. These are often online.
Do some exploring on ASSIST

You need 60 semester or 90 quarter units by the time of transfer in order to be eligible for junior level transfer. In general, both UCs and CSUs favor junior level transfers, and most do not admit lower division transfers (and the few that do consider high school stuff for lower division transfers).
http://www.assist.org can help you plan course selection that will cover the needed course work for your major at your target UCs and CSUs.
The one that answers the question about whether you want to earn a AA degree before you transfer. Either way makes no difference to your ability to xfer.
When posts like this show up, there is usually a hidden side. Kids that are eager to xfer after 1 year are seldom attending a CC first to save money. They’re doing it because they don’t have the grades out of HS to get into a UC. Which raises an important question. Since CC students are not promised a place at UCs but have to be selected based on GPA, what are you going to do different at a CC in order to get better grades?
@mikemac Thank you for your input, but the second paragraph wasn’t necessary. It seems like you’re judging the people who want to transfer after a year. It is also not relevant to the question I asked. If you must know, I did extremely well in high school, but had trouble in senior year due to FAMILY PROBLEMS and PERSONAL PROBLEMS. It is also a more affordable option for me because I do not come from a wealthy family.
