Going near downtown LA

I was wondering how one could get from UCLA to downtown LA, or at least very close to downtown LA. My girlfriend will be moving close to downtown LA...it's not exactly in downtown LA...the area is near W. Fourth St, which is by the Frida Kahlo theater. Since I'm not going to have a car, I can't exactly visit her. She'd have to come visit me of course...but even then I don't know how it's going to work. How long would it take to drive from that part of the city to UCLA? And are there any ways for me to go visit her?

A drive - about 20 minutes, if the traffic's nice and clear.

The bus - a little less than an hour. You take the Metro 20, if my memory serves (I haven't bussed home since fall qtr). Details at mta.net

Going downtown through the bus is going to take a little over an hour. One hour only takes you to Wilshire-Vermont area. Probably 10 minutes -15 minutes more depending on traffic.

It's a pain without a car. Welcome to LA.
