Hi, fellow bruins! I just landed an internship at downtown LA and my question is what is the best way to get there from UCLA ( I didn't bring my own car) and how long does it take to get there? Thank you!

eeeek.

/sorry.

//bus, I'd imagine.

///eeeek, again.

an hour?? 2 hours?? ekkkkk

I have a friend who had to take the bus each way to do some tutoring or something over there. It was almost 4 hours roundtrip. She told them if they didn't form a carpool (since it was a UCLA program) she'd quit.

But uh.

:/

/maybe it won't take that long for you?
//i really don't know...im somewhat afraid of buses

You can take the bus to North Hollywood (Lankershim + Chandler) and then take the Red Line to downtown destinations. That's probably your best bet unless you want to spend 2+ hours taking the bus in traffic and constantly changing routes.

That could work. Although a bus to NoHo is still going to take a while. But definitely better than the other options.

Bus to NoHo and then underground is definitely better than taking a bus all the way. Especially during peak times when 101 South/East is clogged.

yeah id imagine

L.A. traffic........you gotta love it.

I think you have to spend at least 2 hours even in non-rush hour. I live in Lincoln Heights, an area near Downtown, and a trip to UCLA always spend me over 2 hours. If you go to downtown from UCLA after 4:30 pm, then you probably have to spend 2 and half hours on the road. I tried every route, the 10 freeway, 101, wilshire blvd and sunset blvd, but I still got stuck in every route for over 2 hours. The 10 freeway is the most horrible.

Don't choose bus that takes wilshire blvd. You probably get stuck starting from Beverly Hills to Koreantown. Take bus to hollywood and go by metro.

Solution = massive subway system like NYC

Problem = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Alternative = Pass a law requiring everyone ride bikes (good for environment too)

Is metro trying to expand from downtown to culver city?

well, money and that whole little methane gas issue that they're still working out.

but yeah.

shirley- trying to expand the redline from downtown to santa monica near the beach.

An expansion from downtown to ucla is enough! People don't go to beach everyday.

It's not really for the beach, it's for commuters who work/live in the westside and need to get to downtown for the reverse.

hondaicivic, the problem isn't only $$. I think that's the least of their worries. The #1 problem with underground metro - Seismic zone.

Japan always has earthquake too, but they still have underground subway.

bus down wilshire would take at least 2 hrs.

subway from north hollywood to dwntwn civic center would take around 1hr 15mins. dunno how long a bus from ucla to north hollywood station is though

during rush hour, would it be better to avoid the 405 south and 10 west and take santa monica blvd or wilshire to get to cal state la? if so, which would be better, santa monica or wilshire?

both might equally be the worst routes during rush hour. try sunset to san vicente to beverly or melrose though even that will be bad
