I'll be staying in Gregory starting this fall (2014). Wasn't my top choices and am kinda worried if it'll disadvantage me socially, cos' well we are far away from the Quad parties, not as cool as the freshexp kids and I've heard some people say Gregory kids are known for being.. weird.

I'm worried that this might affect my chances when I try to rush a sorority/business frat or try to join some clubs and societies. Any idea if this is a legitimate concern?

If yes, how do you think one can go about to become more socially involved on campus? Like anyone knows any must-go campus events/parties where you can meet people and stuff?

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'm just afraid that Gregory is really too quiet and un-happening for my liking, in addition to having a bad rep..

My (social) fraternity bid a kid in DuBois this year. For fraternities, it doesn’t really matter where you live, and it especially does not matter for sororities.

As for parties, you’ll just end up going to your friends’ rooms for pre-games anyway. You’ll meet people that aren’t in Gregory during NSO and during first semester, so don’t worry too much.

Penn grad for a while ago – I also wasn’t in the Quad. You are not the only person who has been placed in Gregory who didn’t opt for it. As you get to know your hallmates, you’ll get to know who also wants to be involved in the social scene outside of Gregory and you’ll naturally have a group of people to go out with initially. You’ll meet people during NSO, and don’t be shocked if people from the Quad do turn up their nose a little bit when you say you’re in Gregory. That being said, you’ll meet plenty of nice/normal people during NSO and the early part of the semester – you should join their social plans even if they mean you have to trek out from Gregory at night (though use common sense during the late night hours).

Once you start rush, it’ll all be a wash. No one cares where anyone lives and if you’re really worried that it’ll affect you, you can throw in comments of how you got “stuck” there (though don’t be a Debbie downer about it). And in no way does your college house affect any other clubs etc. that you want to be involved in – you show up at the meetings and get involved.
