Going to Boarding School - Do Colleges Have Different Views?

I’ve been told by a lot of friends (who are currently in college and have graduated from my school) and a few non-teacher adults that having been enrolled in a boarding school for three years has an impact on college admission officers… though that doesn’t really make sense to me.

Given that I go to boarding school by choice, and not because of any personal issues or academic failures, is it true? Do colleges tend to view boarding school students differently from standard HS students? (I go to an arts boarding school; one out of four in the country, if that changes things.)

This is just out of curiosity; I want to hear what people have to say!

You will be judged against your peers. Which means other students from boarding schools. If anything I would argue that going to boarding school hinders the ability to get into a top college. Better to be a big fish in a small pond instead of a small fish in a big pond.

Having said that going to boarding school teaches you how to work hard and be independent. This will help.
