I'm the mom of a 2011 "Plebe Candidate". I saw him yesterday at church. We are apparently allowed time to go and then afterwards. I just thought I would let some of you who live close enough that we can do that, even now. It was great to see him!! They want food, especially home-cooked anything. Hope some of you get the opportunity to go.

I am SO jealous! Good for you and your kiddo! Counting the days until I can give/get a hug from mine :)

I was there yesterday too. It was a very nice time. Especially to hear all his stories and see he is adjusting beautifully. I am very proud of him.

If you visit on campus on Sunday and attend chapel service, is there a limit on length of time you can spend there? Are you allowed to have brunch at Delano with your PC and walk around grounds/hang out after chapel? Our son told us there were "a lot" of parents there yesterday. We'd consider a trip up there in August on a Sunday (his birthday is 21st.) However, that is a huge distance/expense if our visit will be severely restricted.

I think the new rule is 2 hrs after church. bring lunch!

We did spend 2 hours after church. No one chased us after 2 hours. Parents did bring food. I don't know if it will be like that every Sunday. It is a nice visit if they are given the time.

I love churches and chapels
This one doesnt inspire me
But if you hug the kid that
makes you so proud
thats truly inspiring.

Does anyone know the words to the merchant marine prayer song sang at the end of mass. It was really beautiful and would like to know the words.

Eternal Father strong to save, whose arm has bound the restless wave
who bidds't the mighty ocean deep, its own appointed limits keep
Oh hear us when we cry to thee, for those in peril on the sea

Lord, stand beside all those who sail
our merchant ships in storm and gale
in peace and war their watch they keep
on every sea on thy vast deep
be with them Lord, by night and day
for Merchant Mariners we pray.

Thank you. I would like to say that prayer at night for all at KP.

Is it sung to Naval Hymn ??
I think

First phone call, my son said "Hey Mom...you know the recessional hymn? They play the same one after every mass. It's this really great one that starts out "Eternal Father." I asked him if it is "The Mariner's Hymn" that was played at the memorial service in the movie, "The Perfect Storm?" Then, I sang a verse. He was so excited that I knew the hymn. He loves it! I did look for it in the hymnal at St. Bridget's yesterday at mass here at home. I couldn't find it...but feel sure it's there somewhere.

The words and music are available here:

Adam told me that I would be able to stay until 1 pm, but I stayed until 2pm. There wasn't anyone around telling us what to do. We stayed mostly in the Sailing Center. It is a nice place and when it rained, we went inside. Not one upper classman questioned us. Maybe the upper classmen are afraid of us (parents)!!!

ah, but what happened to him AFTER you left.........that is the question.

i believe this KP to be a very fair place.

LOL me too proud dad.........but still gotta wonder if any pushups were involved :D

Heard from Adam, and he DID NOT get in trouble for staying with me a few hours!

Sundays are ok to visit based on my experience. So go have fun and BRING FOOD!

I would think twice about encouraging that kathynp.

oledad

i think you may be right
plebe moms'dads understand
that this year will pass
dont push the rules
your plebe is getting some
training/instruction that you
as a parent couldnt give them

live by the rules for this short time
the results are well worth it

in no time
he'she will be a thirdclassman
