Going to Owl days?

anyone going to Owl days? Flying in on Weds and leaving Friday from Hobby? Share a supershuttle? Message me. Thanks.

I’m not flying in or in need of any cab rides, but I am going to owl days! I’m excited to meet you and all the other prospies who are going!

If you go on Rice U 2017 facebook page, there is a list of people looking for/sharing rides

I hope you all are having fun. Be sure to ask lots of questions and see lots of things!

If you are taking Supershuttle…there is no need to “share” a ride as they have that option when you make your reservation. It is $23 one way for the shared van service. It’s a great deal and a good service.

How’d you guys like Owl Days?

My S had a fantastic time. He thought the campus was stunning and liked Houston, too. His host was so kind and fun. Rice kept the kids busy and gave them a great overview of the school. He thought the dorms were big and very nice. Had a great time. So glad he made the visit.

I had fun and made some friends too. Liked what I saw and definitely was pulled more in the Rice direction. Probably going there.

My Owl Days experience turned me off about Rice a great deal. I am thankful that my decision will be easier now but at the same time I am a bit uneasy because I am forced to ask myself why I didn’t have such a great time and others did. Could it be because my host left me to my own devices for the three days I was there? Or was I supposed to find my own way? I really am not sure.

I’m surprised your host left you out on your own like that. My host made it pretty clear that I could be as independent/dependent as I wanted. During the day I mostly made my own way, but during the night he took me around to parties and such to introduce me to people.

Was s/he really busy with schoolwork? I felt it was kind of a bad time for some hosts because they were involved with the research symposium thing at Tudor. Anyway, I hope it didn’t totally ruin Rice for you… I think you could have had a great time there under different circumstances. I probably would have had an equally bad time if my host just left me to figure out everything on my own, tbh.

I was left to my own devices for much of the time and did so hanging out with a crew of prospies. That was out of choice though, and my host was really cool. Another school I visited my host was busy much of the time, which was annoying but I realized that’s the luck of the draw with those things.

That said, the other thread you posted makes me think that you’re really against Rice, which is your prerogative. (Though I don’t see how you could think Rice isn’t accepting… It’s socially different from most of TX)

You said in another post that you really want to get out of your home state Texas. I think maybe that is encouraging your negative view of Owl Days. The three days were completely mapped out and there were so many other hosts/prospies around; I am surprised that you felt left to your own devices and that you had to find your own way.

I don’t know much about UCLA, but I would question your comfort level at NYU if you felt that way at Rice which is a small school that places importance on the college system and making you feel like part of a family there.

Good Luck you have great choices!
