So, I live in New York and plan on attending Owl Days without my parents (financial reasons, and the fact that they wouldn't be able to handle themselves). The problem is that I'm having an incredibly difficult time finding ANY flights that will arrive in Houston before 7 AM on April 7th, but I've found a few that would work out if I was able to stay on campus the night of April 6th. I called Rice and they said no. I was thinking I could just rent a hotel that night, but a) I doubt my parents would be cool with me staying in a hotel room by myself halfway across the country, b) I can't rent a room myself because I'm seventeen.

...Any advice?

I have this dilemma too, coming from VA!
Luckily, though, I’m staying with my aunt who lives in a Houston suburb…

same dilemma from washington…

my parents are okayish with letting rent a hotel room (they let me do it in miami) its just finding a hotel that will let a 17 year old stay in it.

my mom is still deciding whether or not she wants to go.

I didn’t realize when I posted this thread, but the exact same issue was discussed in the orginal Owl Days thread. Apparently Rice has been getting calls like mine all day, and finally realized they need to provide housing for students who are flying into Houston alone the night before the event. So if you can prove there are no morning flights and you are flying alone, Rice will accommodate you. problem solved:D

Thanks, Janeyyet!

S was planning just to fly the all-night red-eye to Houston and stumble through the day. Maybe we can fly him down for accommodations on campus the night before… :)
