Hi everyone, my name's Taylor, I'm from Gainesville, Florida and I've decided to attend Georgia Tech. Has anyone else decided they're going yet?

Did you apply to UF? If so, did you get in and why did you choose to go to Tech over UF?

The reason I ask is because I applied to both places and was accepted to both and face a choice. I'm from Jupiter, FL (Palm Beach County). I'm still waiting to hear from Carnegie Mellon.

I applied to UF and got in. The reason I didn't go is a bit of a combination. I live in Gainesville, so going to UF would literally be going to school in my back yard. Also I dual enroll at UF and to be honest I didn't like the atmosphere near as much as I did at tech. For example, at UF when I walk around campus almost no one talks at all, regardless of whether it's at 8:30 am or 3:00 pm; whereas at Tech everyone was friendly and talking even on the way to the early classes.

Also, another reason is I was selected as a PS. That was a big factor because it allowed me to be able to afford to go to Tech. Also, I like the fact that although Tech is by no means small, it's not the 50,000 students UF is. It gives you smaller class sizes and more one on one time with the professors.

I guess all of that combined with the great experiences I had at PS weekend in Atlanta, the fact that Tech is a better school than UF, the way it's away from home, but close enough to get back to home if I needed to, and the desire to not go to school in my back yard all made me choose Tech over UF.

UF is definately a good school, and may be a great fit, I just had been to both and Tech was the much better fit for me in all areas.

I hope that helped, and good luck on getting into Carnegie Mellon.

Thanks for the reply....I had not had the oppurtunity to visit Georgia Tech so I don't know how it is other than Google Maps...

I did however tour UF and visited Carnegie Mellon's campus a few times.

CMU is certaintly very expensive compared to staying in Florida...it will be interesting to see what they offer me if I'm admitted there.

I've heard a lot of negative talk about GA Tech in 2002-2003 in regard to its policy on comp sci classes and other general "bad" incidents at the campus.

If anyone can elaborate on that or provide more feedback about this topic, I'm interested.

Thanks :)
