Hello, so I have always been interested in Minnesota but did not think it was worth it to pay $55 to apply. I just received the Golden Gopher application and need some help.
- How important is it to do the optional essays at the end of the App?
I guess I have to send my act scores now so that they’re in on time. At this point, is it worth it or should i just forget about it?
Stats:
4.64 w gpa
31 act
multiple EC’s
please help!!
Welp I just sent my ACT so looks like im going for it. I applied to the college of liberal arts by the way.
Good luck. I did not do any of the optional essays either. I figured it wasn’t worth my time when I had 3 other application to work on.
Well I made the decision to apply and submitted it in the hour.
The only “essay” that is required is the explanation of your major. They are obviously interested in fit.
ACT is fine - what is your uw GPA? Course rigor?
@JBStillFlying like 3.8 or so. My school doesn’t report unweighted and there is no way for us to know. Also, 9 honors and 3 ap at a competitive private high school. Do you know, am I still considered priority deadline if my app is in but my act scores or transcript aren’t in yet by November 1?
@soyunchico you should make sure to get everything in by Nov. 1st. The only exception might be if you are taking an October test:
“The exams offered on October 22 (ACT) and October 1 (SAT) will be considered on time for the November 1st priority deadline only if you provide the U of M school code listed below when you register for the exam. We will consider your strongest composite score when we make your admission decision.”

@JBStillFlying so If my test gets there on November 2 I will not be considered for the priority deadline?
@soyunchico is it one of the Oct. tests or are you having an earlier test date sent? If the latter, you definitely risk not being considered for the Priority Deadline so you should call and get clarification. Better safe than sorry.
@JBStillFlying unfortunately it’s the latter. Hopefully it gets there in time.
@soyunchico go ahead and check your sent scores on ACT.org to see when it was processed. Scores are sent at most every two weeks but usually more often than that (especially this time of year!). You might also call UMN and ask them how often they receive scores from ACT. Guessing it’s every day given their size and the expected number of application (around 46,000!).
@JBStillFlying it wasn’t processed yesterday so hopefully I am good. My high school transcripts will Ben sent either today or tomorrow so if they’re there, does I think matter if a community college (DE) transcript is ther?
I meant it was processed yesterday
@soyunchico for the ACT that’s two weeks plus 1 day before the deadline. That should be good! You can always call and ask that question for peace of mind.
You need to make sure that ALL necessary transcripts are sent well before the deadline. Pretty sure that UMN requires transcripts from all colleges attended even if you didn’t receive a letter grade. Unless those grades are included as part of your HS transcript you’ll need to make sure the cc transcripts get there prior to the deadline. (If they ARE included in the HS transcript you may still need to send them but call Admissions first).
