Can someone please help me understand how recruiting really works at Goldman Sachs? I applied to the new analyst position at GS London about at least 3 months ago, on their website it says my application is still under review. Does this mean I am totally rejected and just forget about GS London and look somewhere else? About a month ago, I did the their HR in London and spoke to a recruiter. She said, oh, we are still reviewing our candidates, any progress, we'll let you know. I have no idea what to do now, has anybody experienced this before? Thank you for reading this!

Most firms recruit through on campus recruiting and very rarely take candidates that submit an application online. I know full time hiring for Goldman is almost done in the US I would assume its the same for London. Unfortunately, chances are you won’t be getting an interview. (Unless you have some sort of contact in Goldman that you didn’t mention)

yeah online apps tend to get ignored…

Most large banks want you to apply through your school’s career center AND their website. What position did you apply for? S&T, trading, ops, etc?

I’ll repeat what’s already been said and tell you that if only applied online and don’t have a superlative resume, your chances are slim. I’m not sure about GS in Europe but in the States they are very specific about where they recruit.

thank you for all of your comments. I did apply through my college’s career website, and it directed me to the goldman sachs website, so i submitted my application there.

i applied for the investment banking division.

do you think i should try to pursue GS?

What’s the harm in applying? None.

You should pursue as many banks as you can. Don’t put all your eggs into one basket

Does Goldman interview kids on your school’s campus?

^^ Some campuses do interviews with Goldman Sachs. Ours does.

I don’t mean to hijack this thread but seeing that my question is relevant to the topic I’ll go ahead and ask.

Will a 3.65 (taking into account that I have good EC’s and whatnot) as an undergrad be good enough for an interview/employment at Goldman Sachs? Also, does anyone know a ballpark estimate of the GPA average of Goldman’s hires?

Yes you can get into GS with a 3.65 from a top school, but your GPA is really not the determining factor

i interned @ GS this past summer. i go to a non-target which has no campus recruiting by any IBs so had to apply through their general HR website. ended up getting a call to go interview within a few weeks with other candidates from primary & secondary targets. i got an offer for ops, less selective than IBD but i guess it is possible to get into GS from a non-target as long as you have a really good resume & GPA (i had a 3.9 gpa at the time i think)

Re: Awped

Ya, people on here focus way too much on GPAs and stuff for IBD/GS/etc.

I would say acing interviews is a better thing to focus on.

Re: BigMike

I’d say in general that’s true… but if you are from a non-target you’re going to need an incredible GPA just to get a look.

In the case he mentioned of a top school, once you get the interview its really mostly about that. So your GPA needs to be good enough that you get an interview in reality.
