ok, cur, after my post #108 I've been tapping my foot, waiting on ya! I didn't want to spill your good news. Congrats to your D and feed those goats, too, when they're done dancin'!

ok, cur, after my post #108 I've been tapping my foot, waiting on ya!

I saw your post (and knew you knew):). I think I was the last one here to see the list. I was in a closing all day (but D reached me by cell.;)) and had no computer access. Client had an I phone but I couldn't work it and neither could she.

The Goldwater site now has some data, not just a list. Pretty ambitious plans . Check it out. The other Rhodes girls are from Mississippi and Alabama. ;) (Edit: W says I'm an idiot. Says that the career info has been there the whole time , I had just clicked on the wrong spot. :()

Congratulations to your family, curmudgeon! When I saw that there were 3 winners from Rhodes, I was basically certain that your daughter was among them, but it's nice to have the confirmation!

I last saw a post by marite in the Harvard Forum just a bit ago. The three names of Harvard students on the Goldwater list appear to be no relation to her family, but of that I will say no more.

Congrats, and one suggestion to the parents of winners:

You want to get your scholar to pay close attention to the instructions for payout next fall. They do NOT pay to the university. They pay directly to the scholar. This has been a point of confusion for both scholars and, believe it or not, some universities, who granted tuition credit for money that was not coming in, only to reverse the credit and bill for it when they figured out their mistake.

I do want to say that some posters may not appreciate open speculation as to whether a publicly named individual is their child, so I really do think the rest of us should refrain from publicly speculating as to whether an identifiable person is the child of a cc poster. I would guess that many parents in this situation would not mind a private message (pm) at all and some parents like curmudgeon may be happy to share the news about their own children, but public speculation about the identity of other people's chldren on the forum by other posters seems out of place.

I agree with wisteria about not outing anybody. "When in doubt, P.M." Unfortunately, a few of us have posted so much info you could find our kids in the dark. (Edit: Please. I still don't want her name bantied about on here. But if she wins a prestigious post grad fellowship I'll take out a banner ad. );) Anyway, Rhodes will shout it from the rooftops and our local paper will have it on the front page local. That is if there's not a grass fire or a carnival come to town or Miss Gertie lets loose of her secret for fried chicken. That'll push the Goldwater Scholar to page two. SmallTown news. ;)

Yes, Wisteria is correct. I almost made that mistake myself, before I realized a congratulatory PM was the correct route.

Now that it is in the open, I'll repeat my congratulations to curmudgeon and daughter publicly, and extend my congratulations to all other nominees, finalists and winners.

I really want to read about some of these students in more detail. I'm sure their colleges will have them up pretty soon. Like I said earlier, some of their plans are pretty amazing.
