Ok, I've asked this on a different section of the site and all three people who responded said not to retake the SAT. However, I'd like to get everyone's opinion on this.

I took the SAT before the writing portion came out (fall 2004, was a 10th grader) and got a 1390 (740 math, 650 verbal). I recently took the ACT (w/writing) and got a 35. My question is: do I retake the SAT? Colleges who require SAT IIs will be seeing my old SAT score, if I've been told correctly. Will they frown on me not taking the SAT since 10th grade? Obviously, I am happy with my ACT score, but I don't want to be turned down by a college because I didn't retake the SAT, and my SAT scores are lower than my ACT

I wouldn't bother retaking it. Your ACT translates into like 2300. I'm pretty sure if you submit your ACT score in place of your SAT, then they can't use your old SAT score to affect admission. They might see it on the paper, but I don't think they'll pay any attention to it. And also a 1390 is a good score anyway.

I wouldn't retake. Your ACT is excellent and that is what colleges will look at since it's your best score. On you sending your SAT subject test scores and colleges seeing the SAT score: it's an old score so colleges won't consider it. They will consider your ACT score.

Take it, just in case. If it's lower than expected it won't hurt you anyways. It's also helpful for stuff like National Merit that require SATs.

2090 SAT
740 Writing
730 Verbal
620 Math (eek!)

vs.

32 ACT
36 English
28 Math (eek!)
32 Reading
30 Science
10 Writing=34 eng+write

Should I retake either? I am signed up for the SAT again, plus SATIIs in Spanish, Lit, and Math I. So hopefully I'll do way better in the math section than before...

I was wondering... I'm kinda in the same situation as nathanTX07... i have a good old SAT (>1500) and good ACT w/ writing score . if i don't take the new SAT I, then would I still be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship? (My PSAT score also qualified for the semifinals.)

Anyone getting above a 1300 on the old SATs (or 2100 on the new) and above a 30 on the ACT should NOT worry anymore about these tests (Unless you've taken a bunch of practice SATs after your first time and have gotten several hundred points higher consistently). Otherwise it's a waste of your time and you should all focus on your essays, ECs and overall impression of the application.
