Anyone know of schools with pretty good advertising majors in the NJ/NY/CT/PA area? I'm not sure how to find which ones are best.

Syracuse U is probably one of the best schools for advertising. SU has great communications, graphic design, public relations, advertising, etc.

tanya, just by graduating with a degree in advertising isn't going to deliver you a good job. What matters is what YOU do in school. You need relevant experience like internships and summer jobs. Some schools may have closer connections to industry or a record of placing kids in these jobs; that's what you need to be looking for.

You live in NJ, presumably close to the advertising center of the US (NYC). Get the book "What Color is My Parachute" which has been the job-hunters bible for 20-some years. It talks a great deal about informational interviewing which is not looking for a job but just getting info on what's out there. You need to do this and talk to people working in advertising today; ask them what advice they'd give a HS senior who wants to get into advertising. People are happy to talk about their career and pass on advice, especially when they know its not a backdoor attempt to hit them up for a job (since your just a HS student).
