I really need help. We just started school and our teacher took a test for the first 4 chapters of AP USH. I tried my best but got a B. Considering the fact that i've never gotten a B I think there is something seriously wrong with the book or the teacher. The book we use is the American Pageant. I really did'nt like it much, so is there a good AP USH book that anyone here would recommend. As for the teacher, he seems to be very bellicose and doesn't hear at all what i have to say to him. So please help me.
Also as a sidenote, did anyone in Junior AP English buy the Bedford Reader? Can you tell me where i can get it cheap?
Thanks

REA AP US History.

I only read half of the review and got a 5. It's excellent.

I didn't mean a course review but an actual textbook

Does anyone have an opinion on "The American Nation" by Garraty and Carnes?

I don't think you need an actual textbook, just a review book as supplementary reading. And read Pageant (or course-notes.org, some people here think they're not good to study from but I just used that plus class notes and did fine). Also, getting a B and trying your best is nothing to worry about. My test average was a B/B+, and I got an A in the class. I remember we did an in-class DBQ and I spent the entire 3 hours writing and got a C+..geez did that kill my day. So in any case I don't think the problem is necessarily the book or the teacher (well..maybe the teacher) but you just need to find a study system that works for you.

Also, if your teacher gives you study guides for the chapter tests, then make a table in Word or something and look up every single thing and type a few notes. Save them over the year and voila..you have your study guide for finals/AP. People will totally beg you for a copy of your 20 page study guide (okay granted it's kind of excessive but good to have, in my opinion).

So Is REA recommended above a good choice or are there better one's out there. Also has anyone heard of the Bedford Reader, or do they have it?

I would recommend REA, but I didn't use anything else (REA was just lying around my house). It was good though, I got a 5 as well.

i recommend amsco

Don't buy another textbook! Study guides aren't as detailed as them, and buying another one will just make it harder for you to keep up with what the class is doing, especially if the chapters are not in the same order. You just need to get used to the textbook you have now and the type of test he gives. One B is nothing to judge by. Besides, I used the Pageant last year, everyone does, and it's really helpful for the AP test. Good luck.

I also recomment Amsco. I got a 5 with it. I liked Amsco also because it seemed to explain things the same way my teacher did which was helpful.
