Hey guys,
I"m a first yera at UCI, and I really think I"m gonna transfer, for enough reasons haha. Anyways, instead of asking the typical "what's a good premed school", I want to know some schools with relaly good bio/neurobio programs. I'm alos very intent to have a good liberal arts program especial in near asian studies and linguistics, which forms part of my reason for transferring. I've been considering Columbia, Penn, and USC so far, but would anyone care to add/remove from this list? thanks a lot for your help guys

remove USC :) just kidding!
How about UCLA or UCSD? It's hard to transfer inter-UC but it can be done. FYI, UCSD has i think the #1 or #2 neuroscience program in the country. Duke and UCLA are also known for good prgrams.

hey bruinboy thanks for hte suggestiosn. haha i actually got into UCLA, but for w/e wacky reason i chose Irvine, cuz i heard that it's got a good bio program. but it's kind lacking in some areas, and though by now i've figured how that ucla kicks ass (i was originally from indiana, so the whole Uc ranking stuff was beyond me), it's hard to reconcile the idea into my mind haha. but cool, i'll take ucla into consideration too. isn't duke ridiculoosly hard to get into though?
anyone knkow anythign about washu and how it stacks up w/ liberal arts, etc? and no plz no berkely either

oh and don't i have to wait 2 years before i can transfer?

actually if you got into UCLA OOS then i don't think Duke is out of the picture for you. Anyways, some of those other schools like penn and columbia are not out of your reach either considering u got into ucla oos.

imran can you tell me why you don't like uci? through post of pm cause I was thinking that UCI would be my number 1 most likely school.

Behavioral neuroscience is one of the strengths of UCI's School of Biology. No offense, but if you are a freshman you really haven't experienced very much yet. A series of seminars I attended by Jim McGaugh on the neurobiology of learning was a highlight of time at UC Irvine (back in the Pleistocene). You might find a school with an Asian studies program that is also good at neurosciences. Good luck.

thanks for your responses guys. hey pepz3, don't get me wrong, UCI is a good school, the location is arguably the best anyone could ask for. But (the thing which I"m not used to and am slightly uncomfortable) it's very laid back, like people aren't really competitive, and that kinda thing. And for me, I do my best in competition, so ti's just a matter of motivation. Also, I havne't met many people that are similar to me (yeah im in a buncha clubs). I think ti's safe to say that any college can be meh for one person and just amazing at another. I know a kid at columbia who hates life there, esp. morningside heights, but when I went there, I loved it. It's yoru comfort zone I guess.

Hey Rick Tyler, yeah I know UCI is good at bio, but as i was saying to pepz, it doens't matter where i am, but if im not mentally/socially happy, then it's not gonna work out. And I really like my professors, they're really cool and all that, but I just need a more competitive atmosphere, and yeah a bit more liberal artsy type of place.
