Good Business Schools in the Northeast

Hi everyone, my college search is over and now I am helping my brother start to look at colleges. He will be a junior this year and we need to start finding places to bring him for tours.

he is highly interested in business so a good business school is a must.
currently ranks 9/215 in his class
GPA is a 4.38/5
all AP and honors classes
scored a 183 on PSATs as sophomore (will take SATs in fall)
scored a 680 on the history subject test
2 sport athlete
volunteered to keep score at children’s basketball games

his interests for colleges include…
good school spirit
great business program
northeast area
money is not an object
prefers large but also needs some smaller options

places he is interested in are…
Notre Dame
UMass Amherst
Boston College
UConn
UVA
Villanova

any other suggestions for him would be great, he obviously needs more safety schools!

Penn (Wharton) and NYU Stern if money is no object. Not safeties, but both offer top undergrad business programs.

Also look at Babson and Syracuse, depending upon the type of business program he is looking into.

For a safety, he really should consider Indiana University. It is not in the northeast, but it offers a top, full range business school for undergraduates and tons of school spirit, with a lower price tag (even for out of state) than the other options.

university of pittsburgh

Wait until he has some firm test scores. Wharton is as selective as Harvard or Stanford, and is a reach for everyone. He would need near-perfect scores (especially in Math), plus an excellent “leadership” resume to have a chance there. Stern would probably be a reach, also. Temple might be a realistic safety. They have D-1 football and basketball, along with a good undergraduate business school. It’s in an urban location, but can offer best of both worlds, and is relatively affordable.

My son has a similar profile and criteria as your brother. Smaller schools he really liked were Bucknell and Bentley. He also loved Syracuse (larger). He looked at Babson, but it didn’t make his list.

He may want to consider Maryland as another large school option. My son didn’t like the super huge schools, but sounds like your brother is good with any size. Indiana is a great suggestion, but be aware that to be a direct admit into the business school has certain minimum test scores.

Fordham has non-binding early action and might be a good option.

Syracuse seems to meet most of his criteria.
